This is MUCH better. Battling, rattling them; driving from midfield and having a go.

In lieu of a win/draw, I want to be able to say at least we had a go.

How can a man who missed two great chances in a match like that still have played so well?

Huge credit to Jimmy Ryan though, and obviously the subs and BBM.

A visit from my Geordie in-laws prevented me from attending today. The boot of inconvenience is well and truly on the other foot now.

What a second half performance! Great result!

BBMs substitutions worked wonders!

A tale of two halves. Much better in the second with more drive and pressure on the ball. Rathbone really stepped up, although he probably should have scored twice. Young Luke had a great game, especially going forward. Bringing on the 40 year old striker was key.

Great second half performance, though I would have taken Hendo off and left Baah on.

Brilliant performance! Especially second half.

Magloire didn’t play badly but it was clear he was struggling against a tricky winger and had little support from Baah. It was the right decision to take him off and Matheson was sensational as his replacement. Well done to BBM for switching Dooley and Baah as well, as that helped bridle Atsu a bit.

No one had a bad game. Sanchez was unreal. Rathbone mesmerising. Wilbraham dominant (and a large part of why we played so well in the second half). And Ryan, wow, I’ve missed his recent resurgence but is this really the same player as a few months ago? He was outstanding!

Who would you rather have up front: a £40m Brazilian striker or a 40-year-old Alby?

Rhetorical after today’s performance

That 2nd half was the opposite to the first half. Can’t tell if we switched on or they switched off. Can not wait for the replay at SJP. Up the Dale!

Great subs by BBM, changed the game and put us on the front foot with Ryan and Rathbone being a massive part of that. Wilbraham caused them massive issues as defenders at top clubs aren’t used to playing against someone like him. Their fans were fuming at the end, rightly so as they clearly didn’t fancy a battle.

Hope the replay is reasonably priced and we take a fair few up there.

To be fair to BBM he saw Maloire getting terrorised and changed it and saw the game was crying out for Wilbraham and has brought him on. No one can call him for the changes.

BBM's changes were much-needed, but he got them spot on

So proud of our second half display and we might've even snatched it at the end. Fair play to Newcastle and their fans, no billy big-bollocks that i could see and the game ended with everyone knowing they'd witnessed a proper cup tie. Onto the replay

Lots more to say, but just for now - Dale's home record against top tier teams in my lifetime after 90 minutes: W1 D4 L2

That's pretty damn good! Thanks Dale!

Ryan was immense second half. He seemed to pick up every second ball and drove us forward 20-30 yards. Rathbone was also superb despite the 2 misses and O’Connell was fantastic. Hopefully we can take this into the league as I haven’t seen that sort of second half shift this season yet.

We need a goal and youd take off the top goal scorer over the last decade and leave Baah on,who was getting roasted continually down the right and blowing out of his arse after about 15 mins,
Superb second half and Wilbraham changed the game, the ball stuck bringing others into play, special mention to Ryan who's def growing by the game

but the switch of Dooley & Baah to give Magloire some cover was made too late

I think Baah can take some positives from his 45 minutes. He had to spend much of it tracking back, but on the ball he at least gave the opposition something to think about. At 16, there's loads of room for improvement with his final ball but he can hold his head up for the way he took their defence on with little support

Only surprise for me was it was Baah made way, not Dooley, who i thought was poor today.

Might be a bit harsh don't think he brought his A game but off the ball he did all of his defensive work and tracking back. Guessing BBM already had the McLaughlin sub in mind for later.

A lot of people (including myself) inwardly groaned when they saw MJ's name on the team sheet but fair play to him, he played his part when we were under the cosh in the first half and had an overall decent game.

Not lambasting the lad in any way, but Newcastle picked him out as the weak defensive link from the off and attacked him mercilessly.

First 17 minutes it was Newcastle all down their left. After the goal (and the swap with Dooley) it was all down their right.

Both full-backs were constantly left isolated 2-1 as Newcastle by-passed Baah. Atsu was having a field day until Dooley then Msttheson double teamed him. He ended up drifting into central midfield in the second half and his absence allowed us to break down his side for the goal.

He is definitely a positive going forward, the defensive side he was very green at today but all of the above, once again said with the recognition that he is 16 and learning minute by minute in the first team.

They were giving it the ‘oles’ (sp?) in the first half then booing their team about an hour later. Most fickle fans in football despite trying to make out they are the BEST EVER.

Set of knobs right up there with Wolves fans.
