As was correctly mentioned in the match thread, Calvin lost his man for both headers. He performed sterling work in both boxes throughout and will know more than anyone he should have done better. His reaction after the second said it all. That said, the non-challenges on the second ball were as bad, the space he had for the third was unbelievable.
First goal was Canavan doing a McArdle and charging into the centre of the pitch and not winning the header, Keane slipping and the whole defence all over the place.
RNL didn't even challenge his man for the second goal and for the third goal it looks like he loses his man too who goes on to score. I said earlier that he was woeful today, and that was before I even saw his part in those two goals!
Great finishes by NML and Andrew.

Keane to blame as well too then yeh? Or just Canavan who is the worlds worst defender ever. And well the ref, the best ref ever to to grace Spotland because all refs are the best.
Oh and Logan should have done better for the first.

Keane definitely partially to blame on that one. He's also got a habit of following play out of position which leaves the centre of the pitch exposed, most of the time he makes the right decision and that presumably why Hill trusts him to play there, but it could cost us in terms of defensive organisation.

Not sure you can blame somebody slipping? Caravan running around 20 metres out of position to duck under the ball is another matter. McNulty and McGahey are both far better defenders - a big surprise that Hill has opted for Canavan to partner Keane. Think it will change Saturday.
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

One thing Canavan has on his side is he does grab a few goals here and there, the others don't. Probably costs us more at the other end though?

Not so much the slipping but he moves towards the ball rather than covering round towards the no.14 who was the threat. Even if he hadn't slipped the header would still have been flicked on.

How can someone be "definitely partially" to blame? An oxymoron if ever one was typed.
Rudd made two stunning saves in the first half to stop us going 3 up. We defended woefully for the first and should never have put ourselves in the position of conceding the corner that led to their third. Calvin hit the bar. The game could've gone any way.

No... the first goal was Canavan scoring for us. Well done to him for taking advantage of their keepers silp up following a good cross from Donal.
Their equalising goal was due to Keane slipping.
Their second goal was the complete non marking of their player by Andrew and their last goal was similar. We didn't mark them from a corner, admittedly given away following a needless mix up between Canavan and Wilson.
It was actually a very good game between two good teams. I'll bet the highlights look fantastic. On another day, we'd have won, and on another day we could have lost.

Some fair points there. Totally agree on Calvin's role in the second and third as acknowledged previously and Canavan does deserve credit for his ability to be in the right place at the right time. He's a real threat in the opposition box.
Lost somewhat amongst the disappointment of their late equaliser was the fact it was indeed a really good game, with both sides contributing. Seeing as they scored from the corner that followed, I wish their no.12 had scored after that amazing run because it would have been up there with the greatest goals ever seen at Spotland.

Not sure it has been lost, that it was a very good game - it's been drawn upon by several posters! Which is why i highlighted that we seem to be hitting decent form in t' other thread, despite our run of results
Most teams in L1 have players capable of running the opposition ragged and we saw that yesterday from a couple of the Charlton lads

We have ours too, of course
Maybe it was lost on me after the frustration of the late equaliser and it took the post before mine to give a next day reminder!
We looked much more dangerous breaking yesterday, that was a real plus.
