Bury Council official John Smithington has released the following statement regarding the decision to pull out of future sponsorship of Bury Football Club.
“Whilst the council and the people of Bury can be pleased with the clubs form this season, the failure to gain promotion over the last few years, coupled with Alan Knill’s abrasive attitude towards the press and fans, has resulted in this decision. In addition to this, star players such as Bishop, Picken and Lowe were recently involved in a violent incident in the town centre with an elderly gentleman. There has also been rumblings in the press that on-loan striker Nicky Ajose attacked a goose that landed at the clubs training ground.”
