Midfield players to look at on 19:01 - May 11 by vegasranger | That's not what I'm saying. Good midfielders should be able to play in a 4-4-2 / 4-3-3 / 4-5-1. There has to be some flexibility otherwise we will be stuck with a pattern of play that is easy to counter. I'm all for playing true fullbacks in their proper position. Right now I'm not sure we have any decent fullbacks. with a bit of pace. |
Yes, but, as we've said so many times, if you were a genuinely good midfield player why would you sign for QPR? Good midfield players, capable of playing numerous positions, are going to have lots of options. Saying "oh well if you're any good you'll be able to play in any position across midfield" is exactly the sort of attitude that lumbered us with Leroy Fer playing left wing. Every team in this division and the one above has a preferred starting 11 and shape and system. I'm not saying you should never be able to deviate from it but you should have it in mind when you're signing players otherwise you end up doing what Hughes and Redknapp both did here - signing players because they're good players (with good agents) rather than because they're what we actually need.
