Great showcase for Rochdale AFC there, think we came across very well despite the final score. Mighty proud of the squad and management this evening. I don't care one bit that the press / pundits / commentators / general public try to belittle our football club and the town of Rochdale, I couldn't be happier to support such a "small club".

I am the resurrection and I am the light.

By the way, and I don't mean to be impertinent, is there any chance you could ask your avatar to uncross her legs and take her kit off?

You always leave me feeling short changed!!

Very proud of all the players tonight. Good performance especially first half. In the end that bit of class told and clinical finishing was the biggest difference between the teams. Final score felt really harsh as the game wasn't that one sided. Bennett my MOTM by a long way.

My only disappointment was with the Stoke attendance. Must be true premier league fans ........... watching from their armchairs at home! Even Port Vale filled the away end on their last visit.

So sang the Sandy - and compared to the two red and blue proper big brands up the road, Stoke City ain't much.

Would have started with Allen and substituted Henderson. We stuck at it but a good first half petered out very quickly after the break.

Rhys Bennett was man of the match. Can't believe there was any other player even discussed.

I gave up trying to stream the game from all the sources suggested and managed to get TalkSport commentary for the duration.

Never been a fan of Collymore but I have to say it was a good listen and Stan was very quick to praise Rochdales first half performance. He summarised by suggesting Premiership quality showed through in terms of converting chances.

He also thought Bennett was our man of the match, followed by Dawson.

Great little cup run the team should be proud of their efforts.

Still want a copy of the game, TS?

To be fair to the Bt Sport and Radio Manc pundits/commentators they couldn't say any thing more positive for the way we picked ourselves up after going down to a super strike from Bojan that most Premier league keepers wouldn't have reached. I think him going off really unsettled Stoke and we gained Belief, where we slumped was when Vincenti got a yellow and then he had to tread lightely. We were lucky to have Vincenti (not fully fit) and now it looks like Done has picked up an injury. Dawson was my Man of the match, it can only be positive from now onwards, the Fa cup could have been a fixture pile up nightmare anyway. Personally I hope the Oldham game is rescheduled for 10th March otherwise the players could face burn out.
Well done to Keith Hills men and I for one am proud to say that I'm a Dalefan as much if not more than I was before 8pm tonight. KHBA

All I wanted was for the boys to do us proud, and for 50mins they matched a top class premier league side blow for blow, every one of the team did the whole town proud and they should be chuffed with what they've shown, especially first half. This is one hell of a team Hill has assembled, and with the introduction of Camps, I wouldn't bet against a bid for the playoff spaces, well done to everyone tonight, did us proud!!

Life is a game of fate.

If you want a problem from last night, then the problem is that we went for it, and tried to win a football game. No doubt the sensible thing to have done would be to sit back and stick ten men behind the ball liked Cambridge did on Friday night. But I'd take that problem every time.

Top and bottom of it I thought we were fantastic. Stoke were always going to be tough opponents, and for a side like them who over achieve consistently, we were never going to be coming up against a side that didn't fancy it or assumed it would be a walk in the park. They're a bloody good side, and there's only Arsenal and Chelsea who've beaten them in the past couple of months.

Focus on our players who rose to the occasion, rather than those that didn't hit the heights. Our players should not be judged on their failings against Stoke, but they can be judged on their potential against the likes of Stoke, and we had a number of players who caused them all sorts of problems last night.

Difference for me was Stoke's ability to react to our strengths at half time. Bringing Sidwell on changed the game for me, but when you have squads like Prem sides do, then you can do things like that. Its a thumbs up to us that they were forced into making that change.

Bennett was wonderful, especially when he's probably not played that position more than half a dozen times or so. No doubt there was a couple of Scousers watching the game last night taking credit for him, but they couldn't be further from the truth.

Cracking night, great to see the ground full, and we move on to Cov.

They did us proud TS.

Collymore done some daft stuff in the past.. Haven't we all!! But as a pundit in the media he does plenty right. I have liked him for a while and I am told last night he was very Dale complimentorary.

Bennett was a clear mom for me. What a night for the lad absolutely superb for 90 minutes.

Dawson and Tanser also stood out.

Poor defensive header fell at Bojan feet and a cracker of a strike but wish we had held out a bit longer.

They had plenty of threat Moses probably there chief tormentor.

Made a few quid and did the town proud last night. Now onto Coventry to continue what is fast becoming a season to remember.

Up the Dale.

That level of performance would get us a result in most league 1 games. Little mistakes that would go unpunished vs Gillingham, Chesterfield et al are exposed and seized upon by premiership class teams. On a night like last night I would not be overly critical. We were excellent overall, Dawson and Bennett were superb and we never looked out of the game. Just wish I didn't live so far away and work Saturdays so I could see this great set of players doing us so proud more often.
Money in the bank, an admirable showing on the telly box and a great chance of some success as the season progresses. Up the Dale

Agree with all positive comments on this thread. Dawson was excellent but as others suggest, Bennett was mom as he was against Forest.
Of all our players on show recently, I'll be amazed if a bid doesn't come in for Rhys simply on those two performances.

YOU do not have the right to give someone else permission to tell me what I can and can't do.

Bennett is developing into an excellent holding midfield player. He has the physical tools for the jobs and his reading of the game and positioning is improving. Most importantly his use of the ball in this role is developing and is more frequently using his pace to break with the ball on the counter attack after he has won possession.

Think someone needs to contact the Police because Rhys Bennett was robbed of the Man of the Match award last night. He was absolutely brilliant in that holding midfield role and capped off a brilliant performance with a well deserved goal.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Last night can be best summed up for me by the fact I got back from the neighbour’s house and my wife asked why I looked so happy, having heard we’d been beaten 4-1.

It just wasn’t a 4-1 game by any stretch. We matched a mid-table Premiership team for the majority of the match. The key difference was the finishing. When it mattered, they could, we couldn’t.

In a League One game, we wouldn’t have conceded goals like the top-drawer effort from Bojan and a moment of brilliance from Moses. Their fourth goal was a speedy bit of counter attacking too. The only goal we should be disappointed at conceding was their second. The defence switched off to the punt to Moses out wide.

I know there was criticism levelled at Lancashire’s header, the one that led to Bojan’s goal, but you cannot overlook the fact that Bojan was unmarked in ‘the hole’, where Rhys Bennett should have been. I’m not going to say more than that, because Bennett had an absolute stormer of game overall and was my MOTM.

In fact our midfield was the stand out unit of the whole game. Bennett screened the back four and drove forward. Dawson was Gary Jones-esque and Camps showed great vision for one so green.

Bojan was their key man early on. His through balls and positioning really worried me. We didn’t close him down well. I lost respect for him, though, when he was trying to get Vincenti sent off. Still, it isn’t nice to see a class player injured.

It was a relief for us when he was, though, and we really kicked on after that. When I saw Sidwell come on after half-time I was saying that Hughes has clearly identified the danger in our midfield. It transpires N’Zonzi was injured, but the Sidwell introduction still worked for Stoke. We weren’t as fluent.

I’m glad Bennett got on the scoresheet though, he deserved that much.

The whole performance just goes to show what a squad we have. The greed in me yearns for another centre half and centre forward, but hey, that’s just me.

Everyone I know, who knows little or nothing of Rochdale, and who watched the game last night, has been full of praise. It’s something that is becoming a habit during Keith Hill’s second coming.

That reminds me, Dave Sweetmore’s playlist was brilliantly captured by BT Sport’s pitchside punditry. It almost drowned out Colin and Hargreaves. Almost.

BT Sport rivals ESPN for crapness. Just isn’t a good sports channel.

Anyway, roll on Coventry and I’ll back for Orient.

TTFN.

Possibly? Had we played Saturday would Hughes have started with Shawcross, Walters, Bojan, Moses? Who knows. I'm sure that Saturdays events would have altered Hughes and Stokes mindset though in terms of not taking lower league opposition lightly and with Man City, Southampton, Tottenham and Chelsea all out he would fancy his chances of going a long way in this competition.

Cant believe some players are coming in for criticism after last night ( on a couple of other threads). For more than 45mins last night we stood toe to toe with a superb Premier League side, if looking at league position, the 10th best team in the country currently. Over 90 mins we had more possession, more attempts at goal and more corners. Stoke had 4 attempts on target and scores 4 goals - that's the difference at that level - including 2 wonder goals that would grace any top game. Stoke had an almighty shock in the 1st half with our pressing and passing and attacking play but their class told in the end. Bennett, Camps and Dawson stood out on the night for us and I'm sure their stock will have risen after last nights exposure. Great to see the ground full in the home ends and look forward to more games like this in the future.

Bennett was the best player on the pitch, period.

Bitterly disappointed with tonight and can't help being left thinking what might have been if we put our chances away.

Bennett and Dawson absolutley bossed the midfield first half, but Camps was the wrong inclusion for this game for me, his inexperience leaves him not releasing the ball enough and often not looking after possession (this isnt me knocking him, as hes young and talented), felt jamie would have been the far better option to start with.

Second half the dominant midfield from the first half was none existant and ive just been told by creamline representatives that our midfield will be on one of their milk cartons next week, because it went missing for 20 minutes.

Hendo looked a shadow of his normal self and hope hes back to his best at the weekend. Hopefully with just the league to look forward too we can concentrate on getting into them play-offs and we might still make wembley yet!

Spot on, Camps was way off the mark, a step too far for the lad just yet. Jamie Allen came on too late.
Bennett defo MOM, Dawson played well , but Bennett bossed it.
Matty Done tried hard as always, and we all know he usually puts those one on ones away...ah well maybe next year.
Tanser did well and Raff and Eastham held their own. Poor Lancashire had a bit of a shocker , one or two good tackles , but you cant give quality opposition the ball in the attacking third and expect to keep getting away with it.
Quality of finishing beat us fair and square. They came to do a professional job and they did it.
We will only get better from the experience

Totally agree. Dawson took a bad knock in a one on one with Butland (great keeper, gave as good as he got) and ended up whacking a camera case full on. Didn't think he would come back on but guessing adrenaline kicked in.

The game was won in midfield. They bossed it, we backed off in the hope of picking up the second ball but they were one step ahead.
As much as I hate the granny death faker Ireland, he found and made the space to open it up and they showed their class, Victor Moses especially, my man of the match
.
Piss poor effort from their fans ... 60 miles away / premier league / FA cup. How many? 1800 / 1900? Guess that's what happens when you're bankrolled by a rich owner who treats you as a plaything for his betting website and you only have to spend more than the three teams who are going to get relegated. Barnsley and Bradford brought more. Premier league only by the size of their bank balance.

Move on. Coventry away on Saturday. Up the Dale.

Bankrolled by someone who has been a fan his whole life. Who would turn that down? No-one. Would you turn down the billions of an Arab owner? No

Stoke is hardly a wealthy town as most people know. Do you think people really want to to go the capital of culture that is Rochdale on a Monday night? Not really. Barnsley are getting 8/9k attendances at home and going everywhere with 3k fans. Sounds very likely
