Saints Draw Burnley In The FA Cup 3rd Round Sunday, 8th Dec 2013 16:02 The 3rd round of the FA Cup will see 64 Clubs in 32 ties contest a place in the 4th round, will this be Saints year as they start off with Burnley Saints have drawn Championship promotion hopefuls Burnley at St mary's in the FA Cup draw with Jay Rodriguez paired with his old club The 3rd round draw of the FA Cup is probably the most anticipated of all the cup draws as it sees a plethora of lower league and non league sides all hoping to be pitted against one of the Premier league big boys. This year there will be 39 clubs in the hat for the 32 ties. Can Saints repeat their FA Cup exploits of the past, 11 years ago when they stormed to the Final at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff only to be beaten by Arsenal 1-0, or in 1986 when they lost in extra time to Liverpool at White Hart Lane in the semi final, or perhaps the most heartbreaking FA Cup result of all when Saints lost to a last minute goal to Everton at Highbury in the semi final. But of course the best ever season was 38 years ago when Saints beat Manchester United at Wembley, the run had all the magic associated with the competition, in the 3rd round Saints looked to be out as they headed into injury time at the Dell against Aston Villa 1-0 down until a Hugh Fisher equalsiser took them to a replay and the rest as they say is history.
