Smoking outside pubs
at 09:29 30 Aug 2024

Re. smoking ban. Are you sure? I know they have a no smoking sign on the high st entrance, but that's just to keep the doorway clear. Been a couple of months since I've sat at the tables in the square, but there's ash trays etc.

Haven't heard anything re. Anderson and suspected dickey groin. Didn't look a trivial injury, hope he is OK.

Likely a stupid question and certainly no criticism intended, but I'm curious about what makes these threads and their contents expat friendly?

The list is there when I looked just now. The best rule of thumb for you will be to pick the closest valid country that you can.

I've only seen him at the Spurs and WBA games when he came on. I thought he made a nuisance of himself in the final third against Sprurs and looked quite promising, less so at home last week but good to hear reports that he did well last night.

Love watching a young player with potential and I think we have a few this year. Agree with others, loan out and prosper.

Friday Tuneage - the gig that got away
at 11:24 6 Jul 2024

Some very fortunate folks in this post. To the OP I'd love to have seen both of those and to swoon in the presence of the great Tina Weymouth.
Like the first album track thread, just so many.

Perhaps not the ultimate, but one that particularly gets to me is that I had tix to see Sharon Jones for her first Oz tour. This was two great albums into her career and I didn't go as I decided to support a mate as his band were playing their first gig that night. Never got the chance to see her again before she passed. Massive regret.

Yeah me. Then read the same thing in the second interview and realised it was just poor editing. :)

I do say. Brushed every (open)day, blocked and ironed twice a week, pro cup balls polished weekly. Yes need to be a member, process is trivial, ~£40 a year, and ... pool is free! No real ale, but you can't have everything.

1. AFL. There's a glorious window March & April where footbal codes overlap.
2. Snooker. Add the wold championship to the window above. Best time of year. For those looking for local (Hammersmith) tables check out the Chiswick Memorial Club. I have the occasional knock there.
3. Pool. Hammersmith Club (Rutland grove) has probs the best tables in West London.
Sadly soured on cricket due to pjamaisation and the horrible commercialisation that comes with it. Bullshit walkout music etc. Ruined even the beauty of test cricket for me (and Smith/Waner). Should get back into it.

Dunno if I've shed a tear to this, probably. Usually gets played late into a session. Hadn't seen this comp. from BGP until searched for the track. Perhaps a fathers day request :)

Fun fact: I met Gil on my first unforgettable night in NYC

Bikes in London
at 11:01 29 May 2024

London traffic is terrible and it's flat, so great for bikes. More bikes generally correlates to less traffic and other positive externalities, so I'm all for it.

Bike culture in London is the worst I've seen though, particularly with red lights. Diving culture is surprisingly good compared to other countries I've lived in. Although it's pretty rare I don't see a car run a red light at any intersection I approach.

Loads of public situations where people behave poorly e.g.
- drivers deliberately being in the wrong lane at an intersection so you can cut in late (in an out of top of Fulham Palace Road takes the cake)
- pedestrians not sticking to the left on the footpath (actually any organised system would do rather than the time consuming chaos)

Ultimately, morons are everywhere, London is a big city ... lots of morons. Do what you can to be safe, try and change things by setting a good example, and keep a PMA.
