Charlie Kelman’s Leyton Orient
at 06:47 9 Feb 2025

Not quite on topic (Kelman) - sorry. But, the FA Cup 4th Round has been turned into a long weekend football festival, largely for TV. Although we are not involved (the club has some sort of long-standing agreement with the FA, not to participate in the competition beyond January), there is something good about this mini festival. If you doubt it from what you have seen so far, then ask Plymouth Argyle. Those that live in the south-west will know what a buzz there is around today's match, which apparently will have a global TV audience. Will non-PL clubs be having a re-think about how they approach the competition in future?

Should we not be making clear to the world that Edwards is useless?

Yes, there were nearly 5,000 empty seats. In 'normal' times, perhaps not a surprise, but attendances have been remarkably good this season.

Get well soon. Whatever the medication, it will work better with three points for QPR.

We're done with Jimmy - painful news. But, we know the rules and the club's strategy, more or less. Life goes on.

Santos gone.

These references to Santos and Ashby prompt me to wonder what has happened to Osman Kakay. Surely, he is not still out of work? Why is he not featuring regularly at right back in team somewhere, albeit below Championship level?

I had a blood test yesterday. Much as I like him I am more of a QPR fan than Jimmy, but I did not bleed any blue and white hoops. I have seen the test report already and can confirm that no such hoops were found.

If a miracle happened and we went up via the playoffs
at 18:42 19 Jan 2025

It is, of course, extremely unlikely. If it happened, it would be via the play-offs. If the rules allowed it then, having reached the Wembley play-off final, would we say 'No thanks. They (our opponents) can go up, instead.' ?
In the unlikely event that we were promoted, it would have to be managed in a calculating way. Not like last time.

Agreed. Let's hope that the coaching team can help him achieve the improvement that he wants. I think they will!

Your best and worst ever QPR moment witnessed as a fan and as an armchair fan !!
at 06:18 7 Jan 2025

Agree about Leeds (1976) and the Oldham play-off semi- was at both and the atmosphere was wonderful. Coming back from 0-2 down against Liverpool (when they were killing time before getting on the bus for home) to win 3-2 was wonderful, too. It was Jamie Mackie's Aguero moment.

Yes, I wonder what it would be like if that weather (Christmas to early March!!) were to be repeated one day.

The coldest/wettest you've ever been at a match
at 19:27 2 Jan 2025

Ah. I have remembered the coldest one. That was at Swindon, too, on 12 January 1963. The big freeze of 1962-63 had started at Christmas 1962 and the thaw did not arrive until early March 1963 (off at a tangent, but, how prepared are you for another winter like that?).

The pitch was covered in hard-packed, frozen snow. At the 'warm'-up, it was clear that the Rangers players could hardly stand up. Our hosts, however, had been taken by their manager Bert Head, to the 'Bata' shoe shop - to buy basketball boots - on the morning of the match. They were much better able to stand up and play.

Only a tiny handful of games were played that Saturday. This one should not have been. But it was and Swindon won 5-0.

I had recently moved to a school in Swindon. That Saturday was miserable. So was Monday morning.
