Comparison against one other random game is meaningless. Spurs played a weakened side too. And Tamworth lost 0-3. |

Not quite. What the stats are saying is that it probably doesn't make any difference. We won the same percentage of those cup ties as we did the games after the cup ties, so you could argue that we are no less likely to win a cup game with a weakened side. What we don't know is if the defeats would increase in the following league games if we fielded full strength sides for the cup. Either way, we lose a lot of games so losing should never be a surprise. |

As I've done them, take a look at the stats on league games following FA Cup games (on the momentum thread). |

Because I'm sad like that I took a look at the actual stats for games following FA Cup ties. We've played 14 in the last ten years and the 14 league games following are W4 D3 L7. In the ten games following cup defeats: W3 D3 L4 - loss % = 40 In the four games following cup victories: W1 D0 L3 - loss % = 75 So on these stats we're almost twice as likely to lose the league game following a cup win than a defeat. The sample sizes are probably too small to make that a meaningful conclusion, but overall it still calls bullshit on the narrative that we lose the league game after a cup defeat because of the defeat. We've almost certainly lost more games than we've won in the last ten years across all games, so it follows that a defeat is more likely after any game regardless. |

Plymouth will beat us on Saturday and will go on to finish in the play-offs while we go down. I'm certain of it. No other conclusion could reasonably be drawn from today's results. |

I'm genuinely surprised anyone is angry at the result. Disappointed, sure, especially those who made the trip. But we all knew it wouldn't be a full strength team and we also knew we would probably lose as soon as we saw the Leicester team. No manager gets sacked for losing a cup game and until that changes, strongest sides will not feature. |

Would it help if we got his dad in to shout 'run around more and kick some effing shins, son!' from the touchline? |
