2024 - the year for Saints
at 10:05 31 Dec 2024

Exactly...oh to an Ipswich fan.
They will likely go down with us but with a fight .
We on the other hand are just an embarrassment.

No, it's because Wolves a far better squad of players.

It's really straightforward.

No manager can alter this fact.

Russell Martin goes but results wise nothing changes

You are right sadly and I've felt the same for this and our previous relegation season.

Managers aren't wizards.

We have a crap squad of players for this level.

Poor recruitment, poor owners.

Baffling why the the constantly ineffective Armstrong is picked over Archer??

No big Les after a solid performance against West Ham.
.
Bree offers very little ability in an attacking sense when we really need to be supplying Tall Paul crosses.

I'd have preferred KWP on the right , Manning on the left.

Downes not even on the bench.

Sulemana still on the bench after yet another awful cameo off the bench against West Ham....why not Amo A?

Not confident tbh.

All three promoted teams in the bottom three
at 21:20 27 Dec 2024

The Premier league just feels like a 17 team monopoly .

The privileged 17 are just so far ahead of any promoted team in terms of player recruitment, wealth, management etc.

It's almost not worth bothering with now.

Russell Martin

Agreed.

I was a big fan and quite happy with the style of football in the Championship.

Pre-season he made it clear in interviews he wouldn't change his preferred tactics.

It made me nervous but I like many others were prepared to give it a go.

Clearly it was a total disaster and as Nick rightly points out it became more of his own vanity project and less about about the good of the club...good riddance to the man.

In praise of Tall Paul
at 15:50 27 Dec 2024

Utter madness from previous managers not to play him.

It's not as if we have a wealth of attacking talent to pick from is it?

Honestly...even a dim witted bufoon like me can see the problems he causes the opposition defence compared to Armstrong who for all his endeavours offers zero threat and an absolute stroll in the park for the oppo's defenders .

We just need to see if we can getting a tune out of an attacking three consisting of Tall Paul, Archer and Dibling.

5 Things About The West Ham Game
at 15:42 27 Dec 2024

The Northam is definitely better, louder and more vocal in it's support than previous seasons imo.
Not perfect, clearly not for everyone for a variety of reasons but for me overall it's a big improvement and the atmosphere has improved and it even brings out the part time singers in the Itchen posh seats.

Ramsdale & KWP back against Fulham
at 18:28 22 Dec 2024

Today's performance showed up Martin's and the clubs naive thinking.
It doesn't take a football expert to see we have a poor quality squad at Prem level and the hard facts are , to give yourself a chance to survive the first season you play like we did today ...pragmatism, grit, solidity and grind those points out, game by game.

Well played lads...shame it's too late .

Southampton V Liverpool The Carabao Cup Preview
at 08:23 18 Dec 2024

We're a poor team at this level.
Recruitment has been patchy at best.
Too many non productive attackers.
A mediocre defence .
An easily overrun midfield.
Martin had to get the sack.
Maybe we can sack off the Recruitment team next.

I'll be there tonight hoping we turn it on and Liverpool are not a the races.

Who Do You Want For The Next Saints Manager
at 10:27 17 Dec 2024

Steve Cooper has got got to be a good shout.
Leicester were not in bottom 3 when they sacked him.
Knows the Championship.
Took Swansea to two playoffs Inc one final.
Took Forest up first time of asking and then kept them up in their first season.
Ticks all the boxes for me.

Europa League Side Preparing January Bid For Southampton Forward (n/t)
at 14:56 12 Dec 2024

You may well be right , but I don't feel Onuachu has been given the opportunity that was affored Prem duds like Mara and Armstrong.
This season Armstrong has had 770 mins of game time and Tall Paul 111....basically 1 game.

Give him a run of matches, if he's done nothing after 6 games fair enough bin him off but what have we got to lose.

This is a repeat of our previous relegation season where Selles didn't play him all the while "trusting the process" as we lost game after game.

at 11:35 12 Dec 2024

Although you are right in that he didn't get in the Liverpool box and be a threat to their goal.
The reality was in the first half Liverpool pretty much dominated and we were forced back into the our final third.

It's typical really that we are looking to sell a player we paid 16/18m for likely around 10m.

He's hardly played but when he has he's looked impressive and lifted the home fans and I'm convinced the goals would come if he could get a run of games instead of desperate last 15 min performances where we're looking for miracles.

Whilst we persevere we Armstrong who for all his effort looks way short at this level.

Classic SR .

Is Russel Martin’s Priority Southampton FC Or His Own Agenda
at 17:15 10 Dec 2024

Ever the optimist I hoped this season we'd survive but I remember feeling pretty uneasy listening to pretty season interview with our beloved leader and he kept emphasising the style of football wouldn't change.

Where pragmatism and survival is the name of the game for newly promoted teams, Martin in hindsight was either arrogant or deluded or both to think this style would keep you up.

I suspect he has his own personal agenda of self preservation at the cost of our club.
