Give your head a wobble - who in their right mind is going to offer Russell Martin a top job? Vincent Kompany got the Bayern Munich job because of his name and what he achieved as a player.
I think Sugawara could play in a double pivot with Flynn Downes. This would allow Charlie Taylor to play left back and KWP to play fullback in a 4231 formation as used by most of the better sides. The 3 players in this formation could be Big Les, Fernandez and Cornet with Archer up front. Liverpool used this formation against Man Utd and their front man was Djotta proving you don't need a big lump there.
Watch the way Liverpool play out from the back. It's invariably a hard low pass pinged to a full back wide on the flank well away from the danger zone but, if it's not on, they are quite happy to go long. If you play out from the back properly opponents generally allow you more time and space. If you play out from the back like we do, opponents set a hard press and then the panic sets in. Learn to do it properly with longer harder hit passes and stop the short suicidal passes which invite pressure. If RM is unable to understand this he is going to continue losing football matches until the penny finally drops.
I don't get this Alcaraz is a risk thing - don't we continually give the ball away at the moment or am I imagining that? At least he loses it when generally trying to do something positive. I prefer that to all the pointless propaganda football.
Not what we need in midfield. We need someone creative who can go by people plus a destroyer to go alongside Downes. JWP spends too long shuffling about and not influencing games.
Looks a very good player but seems Hoffenheim have beaten us to it and for only around 12m Euros. If we were truly interested we shouldn't be losing out at a fee as low as 12m Euros. We need to seriously up our game this window because we are well short of anything resembling a squad capable of surviving the Premier league.
You make it sound like the Alamo after we scored and it was hardly that. Yes, our defenders made a few vital blocks but we had our moments too - Adam Armstrong had a great chance well saved by their keeper and Mara should have done better when in a good situation. We rode our luck at times but every team does.
It looks like a done deal for Nathan Jones so not really much point to this question now. I feel we could do better but we have to give Jones a chance to show what he's about. His honeymoon period will not be a long one if I'm any judge of the current mood.
I wish him well but this should have been done long ago. Hopefully the club will get the new appointment right and we can move on although it remains to be seen whether too much damage has already been done to save this season. It will take a good man to turn this around and come out with us still in the Premier League.
