Well that's the Russell Martin bounce back feel good factor over ! Same problems as the previous seasons. We just can't defend. When are our managers ever going to learn ? You can't win any football matches without a decent defence. In over 50 years of watching the Saints, Bazuna has to be the worst goal keeper ever to don the number 1 jersey. He is absolutely bloody useless. Same as last season, nearly every shot on target seems to go in. A lucky draw. A pat on the back to the players for a battling draw but goodness me, shocking defending. As Souness would say too many defenders going to sleep at crucial times of the game, Manning especially for the 4th. As a pro footballer not being able to control the ball with his right foot in a dangerous defending situation is unacceptable. I suppose this is the standards and levels of performances that we have to get used to ? Rant over. [Post edited 12 Aug 2023 17:15]

Mr Semmens, I am writing to you requesting that you see sense and remove this "clown" of a manager, Nathan Jones. Everyone makes mistakes in life and if you want to redeem yourself with the fans then act now and line up his replacement ASAP. Yesterday, after forking out over £90 on 2 tickets for my daughter and myself, I was left hugely disappointed in what can only be described as a totally pathetic, gutless, clueless, pitiful and woeful display from the Saints. I have never missed a Boxing Day home fixture since 1972 and this was by far the most embarrassing performance that I can ever remember. If reports are true and Ralph had "lost" the dressing room then the players looked at an even lower lever yesterday. Drained and devoid of any confidence in our players' faces it was clear from the onset we were never going to "lay a glove on Brighton". Not being able to defend, keep clean sheets, pass the ball to another Saints player, shoot on target, close down spaces, make efficient clean tackles, win headers, mark, communicate, score from the spot or not generally show any organisation, fight or aggression is only going to result in one outcome..... relegation. A traditional home Boxing Day fixture is a time for meeting up with old friends, coming together and being proud of supporting your own team. I felt the Manager never translated that moment to the players yesterday. In fact none of us could see what message he was sending out .... if any other than if all fails then just hit long balls. Established players like JWP who have been managed by Poch , Koeman and Ralph in the past are not going to be motivated by this amateur Jones. He is a failed Championship coach and that is all he is, why oh why did you ever think he was going to be successful at Saints ? I wrote to you in November expressing my concern over his appointment and my opinion has not changed. I only see players' performances deteriorating. Yesterday was proof that Nathan Jones and his staff are clearly not fit for purpose. This job is too big for them. Sack them before it is too late. [Post edited 27 Dec 2022 14:58]

These are critical times for our beloved Saints. This morning I felt outraged enough to sent an email to our esteemed CEO expressing my grave concerns over the impending appoint of Nathan Jones. We need to add more pressure. For those that are on the opt out side for the Luton Town Manager becoming Saints Head Coach email msemmens@saintsfc.co.uk. YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU 15% win rate at Stoke is a manager going cheap in the sales. [Post edited 9 Nov 2022 16:19]

Just read that his family will make the best decision for him on his future. Let's give him his own personal song. How about to the tune of the old ABBA classic "Fernando" ? "There was something in the air last night was Red n White, Armando". Repeat until he signs. I will get my coat [Post edited 18 Feb 2022 15:51]

| Forum Thread | 45 years of hurt at 20:52 15 Apr 2021
I really hope that some of our current players ever take the trouble to read this forum and understand how the supporter's feel about the club. I doubt it but you never know ! Now in my late 50s and being one of the lucky ones that actually saw our club lift a major trophy back in May 1976 at Wembley defeating Tommy Docherty's Man Utd much fancied team at the time. To describe the unbelievable joy and effect it had on the City is difficult to put into words. Reading Jim Mcalliog's latest article in Hampshire Live brought back fantastic memories. He described Saints fans as being "reserved". I will probably agree with him but the FA giving us the Shed End in the Semi Final against Palace changed the history books. The atmosphere that day sent a shiver down your spine and clearly lifted the team. A repeated loud chorus of "When the Saints " and "We shall not be moved " will always remain strong in my memories. Since 76, there has so much disappointment and pain. So nearly there but fallen at the final hurdle. Where do I start ? As a 13 year old Anderlecht in the second leg of the European Cup Winners Cup at home. The Dell was rocking and we had them on toast. Ted Macdougall volley one in at the Milton End and we were going through on the away goal. Then disaster struck and we conceded a late goal. Upset the next day at school and for the rest of the week. Fast forward a couple of years and we take on Cloughy's Forest in the League Cup final at Wembley. 1-nil up and coasting at half time through David Peach's superbly worked goal. Second half Forest sober up and Gary Birtles destroys us. More pain for Saints fans. After a momentous cup run in 84, knocking the Skates out on their turf at Fratton Park, a Friday Match of the Day road trip to Blackburn most Saints fans thought it was our year. We should have won it and losing to those Scouse gits at Highbury in the Semis made it even more painful. We were the best team and would have trounced Watford in the final. A full bloodied pitch battle after the final whistle, over 100 Saints fans arrested that day, the most ever. This result still pains me more than any one single result. 2 years later with Shilton and Mark Wright playing for us ( despite his awful injury on the day) we lost again to the Mickey Mousers. Loads of trouble before and after the game. I don't think we could have been labelled as "reserved fans " back in 86. What then followed was a period of obscurity, only disturbed by a Wembley appearance in the ZDS final at Wembley in the early 90's. A brilliant header from Kevin Moore ( RIP) and another one from Le Tiss gave us hope but we were beaten again by a clinical Forest side. Got absolutely drenched that day ! A great day out in Cardiff in 2003 was ruined by Arsenal , ( if only Beattie's last minute had gone in ). I caught the train from Fareham Station in my yellow Saints shirt and and ran the gauntlet of the local Skate youths on the Friday night but had a brilliant weekend. The Johnstone Paint Trophy was a good turn out for the fans but in my opinion was an insignificant cup to win. To more recent times in 2017 against Man Ure in the League Final. I watched this in a bar in China and as you can imagine I was severely outnumbered by Utd fans but for a period Saints were on top and Gabbiadini rattled them with his goals. Again we should have won and had a perfectly good goal disallowed. One minute I was shouting from the rafters and proudly waving my scarf above the hordes of Chinese Man U fans in the there, the next I was taking dogs abuse after Ibramovic's over head killer goal. That was painful. What I am trying to say to the current players is Mcalliog, Turner, Rodrigues, Blythe, Steele, Peach, Gilchrist, Holmes, Osgood, Stokes and Channon will always be absolute legends. No question about it. They put Southampton on the global map. We need some more legends for the younger generation of fans. Forget about your thousands of pounds you earn a week, remember why you wanted to be a footballer when you were young, scoring a winner in the Semi Final at Wembley. Forget about the West Brom tepid display. Just gives us fans a bit more, stand up be counted. Be immortal and make the history books. |

Apart from a few ring rusty few touches I thought this chap looks the real deal. I grew up on long journeys from Sarisbury Green with my Dad in the 70s watching Derby and this guy has the style of Roy Mcfarland. A cultured left foot, anticipation of attacks, strong in the tackle & quick. A powerful all round defender. In my opinion, an excellent acquisition. |

| Forum Thread | Message for Mr Gao; Danny Ings at 07:56 12 Jan 2020
Like all Saints fans, we are tired of being labelled a selling feeder club for the bigger clubs plus I am sick of Talk Sports's Adrian "Mr Outspoken" Durham constantly announcing that Spurs should "go and get Danny Ings". He belittles and laughs at us. After the recent run of great form, now is the time to give Danny Ings whatever he wants. He is in the form of his life and coupled with a superb improved levels of team performance we would be nowhere without his invaluable goals. There must be a time when the club has to say enough is enough? We cannot, just cannot always sale our prized asset ! They say there is a price for every player but not in this instance, it is different. Since the Gao takeover of 2017 we have suffered 2.5 mediocre seasons.1 half decent manager and 2 poor managers fired plus hiring our now beloved Ralph. We forgive you for the previous 2. The 0-9 Leicester result was a fluke one and let's not forget it was against 10 men after 12 minutes. Yesterday, the victory was even sweeter against those cocky Leicester fans. Danny is at the peak of his career, 27 years of age, a Netley lad, surrounded by his family, playing for his boyhood team via Bournemouth, Burnley and Liverpool and adored by the fans. We feel every time he steps out on the pitch he representing the loyal supporters. A real connection between fans and the club. Does he really want to play for a couple of months at Spurs and then be a bench warmer for Kane? The relationship with Levy and Mourinho will soon a be strained one and knowing how temperamental the latter is, then I can't see him completing a year at Spuds.Remaining at Saints will surely account for an England Euros 2020 call up. Without Danny Ings at Saints it would rip the heart out of the club. If he stays then he would sit alongside the likes of Le Tiss, and achieve immortal status. Improve his contract Mr Gao to keep those North London yobbos away. This transfer window is a critical period in the history of Saints. Invest in a couple of more defenders and we can can continue our fine form. At present we are in Champions League form. There is no reason why we shouldn't be up in the top half. Ralph has magically turned it around. Even Cedric is playing well ! For the first time in a long time I am smiling on a Saturday night. I can actually enjoy watching Match Of The Day and Christmas was fantastic. The atmosphere at the Spurs game was like the Strachan, Pocchetino & Koeman days. The ground and fans are buzzing again. We now fear no one. Sell Ings and I can see Tehran style protests on the streets of St Mary's. [Post edited 12 Jan 2020 8:00]

| Forum Thread | Sarisbury Sparks 50 years anniversary 1970-to present. Original Saints Academy! at 19:00 6 Jan 2020
The Tyro League was not formed until the 1970-71 season as it was previously known as "The Halo League" The original members that I can remember were Albion Boys, All Whites, Brendon Sports, Toronto Terriers, Millbrook Lions, Mansell Rovers, Cromer Crusaders, Thornhill Utd, Test Park, Fair Oak Earls, Sky Blues, Sarisbury Sparks, Wembley Seekers and Windsor Utd. My Dad started the Sparks for my brother and I as we had recently moved down South from Derby and the kickabouts on the Green were beginning to grown in numbers. The "Jumpers for Goalposts" and "Rush Goalies" matches were soon 15 a side. We had a decent junior school team so we entered the inaugural Tyro League. We played our home games at Allotment Road and traveled to play teams like All Whites on the Common, and nearly every other away game seemed to be either at Green Park, Test Park or the Sports Centre. We had one infamous game against Sky Blues at Hinkler Road who had the Stanley brothers, Graham Roberts and David Puckett playing for them. I remember the pitch being covered in glass, making a sliding tackle and cutting my leg but didn't realise until after the match as we were desperate to beat them. A year later one of our friends joined the team and his father worked for Redlands Brickworks in Swanwick. The manager kindly let us use the old derelict cricket pitch for the next season, so all of the families got to work over the summer to cut the long grass, install some goalposts, decorate the old pavilion with our club colours of old gold and black. A skinny long haired 12 year old kid from Warsash then signed for us. He scored a 100 goals before Christmas, his name was Steve Moran. We enjoyed the next few years playing at Coal Park Lane and the club flourished introducing more teams as it grew and hosting a popular annual six-a side tournament, sell out discos with chicken and chips donated by the local Chippy in Barnes Lane, Sarisbury. Many of our players graduated to Saints first team such as Moran, Baird, Whitlock and Pratt. We are all in our fifties now but I will always remember those fantastic years.
