Yep. His politics were hopeless but he was well known as one of the smartest men in Parliament. Corbyn is a mediocrity. An entry level intellect as most on the far left tend to be. |

Their later stuff can be a bit hit and miss (although Viva la Vida is a cracking album), but the first two or three albums stand up well against the output of the majority of bands. I guess being seen as "a bit posh" leaves them wide open to music snobs who are more interested in an artists worthiness rather than their quality. |

The first season back in the Championship the club was looking down the barrel of a £50m+ loss courtesy of Jenkins's splurge if costs hadn't been slashed. What was done had to be done or there's a fairly good chance we wouldn't exist at this point. Despite that we still spent more than £6m on players. [Post edited 30 Jun 20:24]

A significant factor in our ultimate relegation given his cowardly midfield displays having already agreed terms to move elsewhere. Nowhere near as good as De Guzman who we could have signed permanently for the same price. One of the earliest examples of Jenkins sticking his oar in where it wasn't needed. |

Similar story with Brian May. His dad was not best pleased that he abandoned his studies to go and play in Queen. They had a massive rift over it. Then one day he brought his whole family over on Concorde to watch a show at Madison Square Garden, and at the end of it his dad said "OK, son, I get it now". |

The problem is that we don't produce our own steel. Not really. We have to import iron ore to do it, so logistically and in terms of national defence it makes no real difference to just import the finished product anyway and pretend that we haven't generated any carbon in the process. The MoD's takeover of Sheffield Forgemasters has secured the specialist smelting expertise that we need for military purposes, and Arc furnaces can probably take care of a lot of the rest. |

Hence the use of "also" in the initial post. |

Labour perhaps a bit worried about that the fact that they also selected a racist to compete in that consituency. |

I thought so. With apologies to Keith for the uncensored vulgarity, it was too good not to share. |

So reminiscent of how we've played for most of the last five years. Tediously slow build up play allied to square pegs in round hole players. Almost guaranteed boredom and underperformance. There seems to be a mindset amongst young British managers that this is the way to go. We had it with Cooper, then Martin and now often enough under Williams too. Hopefully LW will wise up. |

I'm not anti immigration generally. I'm not even anti immigration from France, but it's blatantly obvious that the Government has completely lost control of the numbers. We have absolutely no idea who is here, what their intentions are and how many of them there are. We're also not helped by our judiciary putting blocks in the way when the Govt actually does try to get to grips with the situation via the Rwanda plan, or idiots protesting at flights containing convicted criminals being repatriated. I'm not sure that I'd be shipping people to central Africa, but there are certainly hundreds of sparesly or completely uninhabited islands around the UK that could contain processing centres where people could be housed whilst their applications are being processed, and then removed if declined. At the moment once your feet hit the beach you're basically here for good no matter what. |

Jenkins' ego just couldn't handle being told to butt out of team affairs. Sousa did it and so did Laudrup. Both men who had big enough reputations in the game to brush off interference. Martinez and Rodgers far more oleaginous, with more to prove and a willingness to accommodate him, or at least pretend to. That's why we ended up with Monk. Someone Jenkins thought was firmly in his pocket, only to learn at his, and sadly also the clubs long term cost that he wasn't. |

Considering how the team was playing at the time, yes. The only forward we had who looked even remotely like he knew what he was trying to do. I know I'm swimming against the tide here. Overall he was a disappointment, but there is a tendency towards one track thinking when it comes to players that I find distasteful. It's ALWAYS the players fault, even when there are quite valid reasons for it not to be. Many people thought that Whittaker was useless, lazy, disinterested etc and said so repeatedly. Many of the same things said about JR in the latter half of last season. The reality was that he was a decent player who the manager at the time didn't have much interest in. Different players suit different managers. Yates will probably go elswhere and do well. He won't here under Williams. [Post edited 25 Jun 17:47]

He was signed for Duff, and did just fine for Duff. Was comfortably on target to at least equal his tally for Blackpool the previous season until we changed managers. He didn't suit Williams' style. It happens. |

Certainly COVID and the after effects of it have added hundreds of billions of pounds to Government debts, allied to the substantial loss of tax revenue during those two years. It's quite sad that the focus of the enquiry seems to be who blame can be pinned on rather than whether many of the steps taken during the pandemic were necessary at all. Certainly the cost in lives both lost and damaged by our response to it is likely in the long run to far outstrip those who lost their lives to COVID. |

That's a fair point. We know McBurnie can score a ton of goals at this level. Even when he struggled to be prolific the Sheff Utd fans have praised his commitment and work rate. He would be a low risk acquisition for us, but not an easy one. He has other options. Perhaps more lucrative ones. That shouldn't stop us trying. |

You've read that because it's reality. Dumbass opinions based on absolutely nothing don't trump extensively researched figures. The undeniable (unless you're a total cretin) figures clearly demonstrate that people in the 15-25yr age range are drinking substantially less alcohol than those of the generation before. There is no sensible or even remotely credible argument to the contrary. |
