Just remembered……

It was FGRs new manager Steve Cotterill, then at Burnley, that once claimed Colchester Utd should leave Turf Moor wearing sombreros after (bandit like) stealing a win. On his next visit to Layer Road, numerous U’s fans wore sombreros.

I wonder if we might see a few on Saturday or am I the only fan old enough to remember?

Let's see how he feels when we put 4 past them on Saturday.

Have never liked him or his style of management.

DC has his number.

Remember it well.

And not forgetting it was also the same Steve Cotterill that moaned about our pitch and apparently our "famed for going down with head injuries" when we humbled his Bristol City side at the JobServe.

I hope the South Stand gives him the welcome he deserves.

This game will not put either of us down, but many more will, and a positive outcome does keep the pressure on .

Hello again Noah 4x4,
I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 years since we last played at yours on a Monday night and I met a few of you in the Victoria beforehand.

A lot has happened since then. We have been to League One (and back) and now we’re both trying our hardest to remain in League Two.

Anyway, I’m planning to make the journey from London again tomorrow, despite engineering works which will probably be a nightmare!

Not sure how I’ll be getting to the ground yet. I might attempt to walk it or get a bus as your local cab companies are apparently unreliable!

I will hopefully be in the same pub around lunchtime/late morning depending on journey and would be really good to say hello again.
🙂

Afternoon chap, and safe traveling over - will the new manager add a few to your following? Cabs-wise, you never usually have a long wait at the station taxi rank, if that’s an option?

Hi Wessex Exile,
I’m not actually a ‘chap’ which I remember was mentioned the last time I was on here chatting with a few of you before & after the game.
It was a long time ago!

Regarding cabs, I booked one last time to and from the stadium and both turned up late. I looked at reviews online and they are pretty bad but then again, so are all the taxi firms there according to Google.
I did try to phone them yesterday to make a booking but nobody answered the phone.
Says it all really!

Good to hear from you after your flirtation with League One. The same boozy gang will be in the Victoria Inn from about noon.

Best bet for a taxi is Panther Cabs. We already have a cab booked, but I think it’s already full. However, an S1, S2, 8 bus (10 minute intervals) from North Station Road to Mill Road Water Tower gets you within 500M of the stadium. There is a new footpath direct from Mill Road to the Stadium running alongside Mill Road Playing Fields. Another option is the 2 to the Dog and Pheasant or the ParknRide to Northern Gateway.

If you say hello, we will point you in the right direction.

Reference: Oxford Dictionary

CHAP /tʃæp/ (British English, informal, old-fashioned) used to talk about a man in a friendly way. He isn't such a bad chap really. Come on, chaps, let's go for a drink!

Reference: Full Metal Jacket

Holy dog s###, only chaps and birds come to Essex, Private Vegan, and you don't look much like a chap to me, so that kinda narrows it down.

I think that was a fair result today considering you were expecting to win and I was expecting to lose!
Thanks for being such good company Noah 4x4 and friends. It was so nice to see you all again.
I’ll return to this forum and let you know when I’ll be back in Colchester.
Hopefully next season🤞

Nice one FG - as disappointed as I was with the final equaliser, it was still an entertaining game...well, second half at least for us. I hope you all have a safe journey home.

Was also good to see you Forever Green. You are always welcome in the Vic and Jobserve Stadium, but I suspect it will be a while before we see you again. On reflection, and taking account of other L2 results, that was a big point for us and (from 0-2) a huge missed opportunity for FGR, who probably now need play off form (1.6+ points per game) to beat the drop.

Terrible referee (again), but fair enough, I agree FGR probably deserved a draw, albeit Cotterill should be wearing the sombrero given the FGR skulduggery, notably off the ball. Another soft penalty too. Safe journey home.
