Draws are next to useless 17:27 - Sep 30 with 41170 viewsborntogo

Just to point out, to anyone going hoopla about all these 'battling', 'well-earned' nil-nil draws - they're as good as useless. Basically, if a team draws every game through a season, they will be relegated.

Sure, they're better than losing but a couple of slutchy 1-0 wins equates to six battling, well-earned bore-outs.

It's a concern that Hill is currently packing his subs' bench with our most attacking players (and arguably our best in Done, Davies, Slew, Andrew etc), as if he's actively seeking draws.

Rochdale, since time began, has always been a side that plays better off the front foot, going for it rather than consolidating etc. We'll probably revert to type eventually but will lose a lot of points in the meantime.

I think away draws are very useful, so long as the majority of home games are won. That kind of form leads to promotion. I would think that promotion/ top six chasing teams would attack at home, thus entertaining the majority of their fans and potentially getting more through the gates, and securing three points, the majority of time, and be more solid away from home securing plenty of draws and the odd win . In these scenarios goalless draws away from home are ok, so long as at home we win the majority of times. Time will tell.

Of course the same applies if a team is hoping to merely survive, away draws are useful so long as a decent number of home games are won.

I'll go along with your train of thought for a moment then, just to amuse you...

Do you seriously think the best manager we've ever had would be playing to draw, when he always regards every game as an opportunity for 3 points?

That's why I reached the conclusion you know f*ck all about football. If you feel abused, tough

I neither agree or disagree, what I will say however if your not strong enough on this forum your really going to get bullied by this lot.
So the best advice I can give you is stay off or they will terrorize you.
Good point as was the one at Blackpool .
Blackpool are a very good team from what I witnessed, but that's only my opinion.

borntogo is one of the few forum posters I don't pay any attention to anymore. Only posts when he has something negative to say and thus, his arguments and posts are rarely balanced or well-thought out.

Spot on.

It's clear from almost all his posts that he has a personal gripe with Hill, something roccydaleian has a theory on...

Bullied! Terrorised! "This lot".

Really?

What about "you're not allowed an opinion on here" for a full house?

For crying out loud, if you have an opinion, just stick to it and support it. Some will agree, some will disagree. That's neither bullying nor terrorising, it's just alternative viewpoints.

I dont think we played to draw we took the the game to Blackpool on their own patch where no team had got a point up to Tuesday, it was a good point could have been more .
I think you have to look at individual games to say it was a point won or to say it was 2 points lost

I thought we played to win at Blackpool, but what was clear to me was that in injury time, the instruction was "do not lose this". Big Jim had the ball in his own half and was doing what most people would describe as "fannying about" with it. He did this right in front of Hilly's dugout, and would have had plenty of opportunity to get bellowed at to get rid, which i think it's pretty safe to assume didn't happen. Moments later, Josh Lillis did all he could to see the clock run down.

I thought Hill's interview was spot on yesterday. Looking more solid at the back (Big Jim's been great these past few games), but we need to do more at the other end. There's no great delight at a 0-0 but rather that its something to build on. For all our defensive woes, we've not let a goal in during the last four games which many would have accused Hill of being unable / unwilling to sort out the defence.

I get the impression constructive criticism is welcomed. Criticism consisting of 'that was bloomin useless, the coaching team are clueless and should be replaced immediately if not sooner' is not.

Just take the criticism with a pinch of salt, the posters on here are a pretty decent lot and I've had my share of stick from them but even the ones that dislike me (or Notts) are not bullies,I've never had any threats or abuse put towards me so maybe you should man up a little bit

I agree that talk of bullying etc. is way over the top. However, there is an underlying issue that is turning people away from the forum. I did not particularly agree with the original post but I'm not quite sure it deserved the response of:
"Nowt wrong with hoopla, you should try it since you clearly know f*ck all about football" and followed by the sheer arrogance of:
"I'll go along with your train of thought for a moment then, just to amuse you..."
I read that and thought here we go again, another thread dominated and ruined by you know who. I just don't get the underlying nastiness but hey ho.
I think people just read stuff like that and think "do you know what, balls to this."
It's not particularly fun on here.

Hill's been very open in the past about the need for learning how not to lose again after a bad run. We've been in that position before and he's always guided us out of it by doing precisely that. And that's what we're doing now, learning how not to lose. When we're comfortable with not losing again I'm sure we'll begin to adopt the attacking play everybody associates with Hill.

Just look at the positives!

2 clean sheets away from home on the back of a 3-0 home win.

That will do me 5 points in 8 days.

To address a couple of points made about me personally: I'm very happy that Keith Hill is manager but that doesn't mean I agree with everything he does. I've always criticised and questioned Dale managers. I've sometimes been known to praise them! It's all part of the fun - we each have an opinion, think we know best.

This doesn't make me 'negative' - these forums are supposed to be a place where we sound off and have a moan about issues as they come up.

If this means my views are discredited by some, fair enough but, if it helps, assume if I'm not posting I'm generally happy, which stands for most people and their relationship with this forum.

I'm afraid, like it or not, the forum IS viewed as having a nasty, pedantic and patronising element that puts people off posting. My own daughter, a regular attender at Dale matches home and away, has some fascinating views, often contrary to my own, and when I suggest she puts something on here she says 'No way, they'll tear me apart!'. I've heard similar said by other fans, too.

I think this is especially sad when we're supposed to form a community of decent, respectful people with a shared passion.

I have yet to work out why anyone would ever resort to using abuse against either an individual or a group of other posters while posting on here.

Challenging views and picking apart an argument is pretty much standard for any such forum, but if you have a point then make it. And if you disagree there is no need to go too far and focus on the poster rather than the content of the post.

Having a post ridiculed or patronised is always going to happen, I've had it happen but why bother letting that affect your ability to stick to your stance?

The only people who tend to get criticised completely are the few obvious Wums who come out with the same idiocy time and time again. I have a couple blocked because they just irritate. Healthy debate is always Good, it's be boring if everyone had the same view.
Big Jim McNulty for player of the month? Obvious candidate for me on the defensive displays this month.

I'm not sure the original poster has an issue with his post being ridiculed or patronised, I think he took issue with being told he knew fook all about football and then being treated like he had learning difficulties. To be fair that would annoy most people.

Well said, absolutely spot on re. the underlying issue identified. Will anything change though? I doubt it as its been going on for years.

In my view the original poster is more right than wrong. Draws aren't exactly next to useless for building confidence but they're most definitely overrated for the mathematical reasons he pointed out. The counter argument that you compensate by winning home games doesn't work because obviously that doesn't happen most of the time. What's really irritating is not actually the draw itself but the manager actively playing for draws. Hill never used to be about that but it seems he is moving more that way now.
