Middlesbrough 2-0 Coventry City - player ratings Tuesday, 27th Oct 2020 21:39 by Phil Spencer Middlesbrough continued their fine run of form by recording a 2-0 victory over Coventry City on Tuesday night. That result made it seven games without defeat and moved the Teessiders to within touching distance of the top six. Neil Warnock's side dominated for long spells but failed to break down a stubborn Coventry defence. Middlesbrough kept plugging away and got their reward in the 81st minute when Britt Assombalonga latched onto Sam Morsy's wonderful pass to break the deadlock. That was followed up by a first goal for Djed Spence who wrapped up the points with a composed finish in injury time. Here's how we rated the Boro team. Marcus Bettinelli - 7 Had very few saves to make but was very alert in coming off his line and maintaining the tempo of Middlesbrough's attacking play. Djed Spence - 7 Had a decent game, but could and should have used his pace and trickery to cause a more direct threat down the flanks. Even managed to grab a goal in the final moments of the game. Anfernee Dijksteel - 7 Another assured performance from the defender as he continues to prove why he's now one of the first names on the teamsheet. Dael Fry - 7 Growing with confidence in every game. This was nowhere near as tough a test as Bristol City or Cardiff but he still did all that he needed to. Paddy McNair - 8 Had a great game. Solid as a rock defensively and provided an extra head in midfield as Middlesbrough looked to dictate play and build attacking pressure. Marcus Tavernier - 8 Used in a wing-back role and caused some problems with some decent balls into the box. Will certainly have given Neil Warnock food for thought in games where a more solid defensive presence isn't essential. Jonny Howson - 7 Led by example once again. Works tirelessly, breaks up play and passes the ball well - everything that Neil Warnock wants from his midfield engine room. Sam Morsy - 8 Enjoyed a proper battle with Ben Sheaf in the middle of the park and looked as dominant as ever. Played a wonderful pass from midfield to set Britt Assombalonga up for the winner. George Saville - 7 Perhaps not as effective as in recent games but a solid performance nonetheless. Lacked the space needed to make those late runs into the area. Patrick Roberts - 7 Another encouraging display as he works his way back to fitness. Showed moments of real quality but Middlesbrough perhaps a bit too reliant on him creating things single-handedly. Britt Assombalonga - 7 Looked to make thing happens but often isolated and lacked any real service for long spells. Feeding off scraps for long spells but scored the decisive goal late on. Substitutes Marcus Browne - 5 Worked hard to create space but had little impact on the game. Hayden Coulson - 5 Lacked a bit of quality on the ball after coming on late in the game.
