Last Few Tickets Left For Carabao Cup Semi Final At St Mary's
Monday, 23rd Jan 2023 10:10

With the game now only a day away, there are still a few tickets left for the visit of Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup semi final first leg at St Mary's surely these will be snapped up.

I have to say I am very surprised that there are tickets left for this one, after all we don't get to semi finals every season, although ironically despite some seeing this as one of the worst periods in the clubs history, this is the fourth in 7 years !

In fairness most of the tickets left are in the family stand and I'm not sure if adults can buy seats in there without taking a child along, but there are still some tickets in other areas.

Given that tickets are only £22.50 for adults and £7.50 for those under 18, there surely can be no question of affordability for many.

If we can't sell out a home League Cup semi final then what is football coming too, people have spent a lot of time moaning about how bad Saints are, yet here is a great chance to perhaps get some glory.

The last game against Manchester City saw a poor crowd and it would have been even worse had it not been for the number of floating supporters who came along for a chance to watch Manchester City, but I thought we would sell this one out.

The game is up for grabs, Newcastle are a side that are on a good run, but Crystal Palace showed that you can get a result against them.

This season may end in disaster in terms of the Premier League, but it may end in glory in the Carabao Cup, we caused an upset against Manchester City, we can do it again.

When we reached the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final we took 50,000 to Wembley in what was a secondary competition, now we have a semi final in one of the big three domestic competitions, yet there are those who for one reason or another aren't going.

This is not a dig at anyone, I can understand why there are those who feel that they cannot justify the financial cost of going week in week out in the Premier League, but this is a chance of glory, win this one and we have a good chance with most of the big teams already out, yet even this can't seem to excite some.

Man City put a weakened team out, and Saints played at a level rarely seen lately. Game v Villa was back to normal. Poor passing, inc from keeper. Poor defending. Can blame ref, but AA shot straight at keeper, Adams offside, but messed it up anyway. Fans are dispirited by failure to buy a couple of strikers. SR spent over £100m on 12 players. Only 2 or 3 1st choice. Why play 3 MF, when not got squad to do so? Why buy Alcacaz when needed No.6? Too many crass decisions by SR. Many fans have lost hope. Why go, just to see team thrashed by Newcastle. BTW I am going!

Surely part of being a football fan of a smaller club is the undying hope that you can upset the odds and create an upset!
In this case Newcastle are not Man City and we are perfectly able to win this tie & anyone who was at the City game will testify the high from that game lasted for days!

The answer as to why go is simple, or at least should be, firstly it should be about the team you support being in a semi final, its not about , what has gone on before its about what happens on this day and indeed up at Newcastle.

In 1976 the few months before the FA Cup final where not a bundle of joy, we had seen relegation followed by the following season nearer relegation than promotion.

Early 75/76 season saw us up there in the top 4 but we dropped away in February, Lawrie McMenemy was not the most popular man in the City, come February, in truth the FA Cup kept him in a job, if we had lost the semi final at Palace he would possibly have been sacked.

The cup run kept the fans behind the team, that is what we need now.

If someone cant be bothered going to a cup semi final then they should not bother going again full stop, that might sound a bit harsh, but it perhaps shows that some prefer to have something to moan at rather than have something to cheer.

We sold all our tickets for Wembley in 76 despite the fact that we were playing badly in the League

Well Nick, there obviously is a question of affordability to be answered or the game would have been sold out days ago. Given the current cost of living crisis generally and in particular gas and electricity costs, I’m not surprised that people simply haven’t got the spare cash to attend.

I'm going , but can see why people have to think twice ! My mortgage has gone up by £350 pm! And everything else has gone up aswell ! It's a social thing going to football aswell which costs aswell ! COYS
