Middlesbrough player ratings vs Brentford Saturday, 7th Nov 2020 17:14 by Phil Spencer Middlesbrough played out a 0-0 draw with Brentford to make it 10 games without defeat. In truth Neil Warnock's side should have taken all three points but will be happy enough with a point against last term's play-off finalists. The first half was a cagey affair as the Teessiders stifled Brentford's attacking intent with some excellent pressing play. Middlesbrough were limited mainly to opportunities from set-pieces in the first period but lacked the quality to find a breakthrough. Both sides had chances in the second period but it was Warnock's side who created the better chances in the final knockings as Thomas Frank's side held on for a point. Here's how Bonkers For Boro rated the Teessiders. Marcus Bettinelli - 7 Had very little to do in terms of saves but showed how strong his distribution is. Djed Spence - 7 A decent game as he used his pace. Looked defensively solid and provided an outlet down the right flank. Anfernee Dijksteel - 7 Another composed display as he dug in and made some excellent challenge to keep Ivan Toney at bay. Dael Fry - 8 A strong performance as he led the defence by example. Showed some real quality on the ball as he sprayed the ball to the flanks from central areas. Paddy McNair -6 Defensively sound but lacked the sort of quality from set pieces that we've seen in recent weeks. Marc Bola -8 Had a really good game. Fulfilled both sides of the game very well and put in some excellent tackles. Cleared the ball off the line to save Boro's bacon in the second period. Jonny Howson - 8 A brilliant game from the midfielder. Howson was absolutely everywhere and made some vital vital interceptions to keep Brentford out. Marcus Tavernier -8 A second top performance in a week. Worked tirelessly and provided the legs to break out of midfield to support the attack. Won some free-kicks in decent areas and drove Middlesbrough forward in the second half to try and grab a goal. Lewis Wing -6 Put in a decent performance considering his lack of action. Played things safe but did seem a bit rusty as he fired an effort high over the bar early on. Hayden Coulson -7 Showed good attacking intent but lacked quality on the ball. Seemed to make the wrong choice too often on the ball. Chuba Akpom -6 Often isolated in attack but worked hard and held the ball up when the opportunity arose. Missed a glorious chance early in the second half after some good work from Howson and McNair. Marvin Johnson -7 Made an instant impact as he looked to get the ball into the box at every opportunity. Britt Assombalonga -6 Worked hard and got himself into some decent positions but was unable to find the winning goal.
