Saints Make "Serious Attempt" To Land Frank De Boer
Wednesday, 8th Jun 2016 18:32

According to the Dutch media Saints are making what is described as a "Serious Attempt" to secure the services of former Ajax manager Frank De Boer.

Saints seemingly want to keep it a Dutch treat at St Mary's and replace one Dutchman with another in the Saints managers seat.

Frank De Boer left Ajax in the summer after six seasons, the first four of which the Amsterdam club. were Champions followed by two runners up spots before stepping down at the end of the season.

He has been in demand and was linked with Everton and is said to have turned down Italian club Lazio saying he wants to manager in the Premier league.

That being the case it is natural that he might consider Saints a prime destination given that their are few clubs of the current standing of Saints who need a new manager.

he De Telegraaf newspaper in the Netherlands say Saints are targeting the 46 year old who like Koeman enjoyed a long playing career before stepping into management.

He started his career with Ajax youth side in 2007 and continued with that as well as being the assistant manager of the Netherlands national side from 2008 till 2010 when he was appointed Ajax first team boss.

He has been very succesful with the Amsterdam club but now wants a crack in the Premier League.

He is certainly on Saints list and many would consider that his CV is better than Koeman' s or indeed any of the other candidates so far mentioned.

he is a manager of 4-3-3 and it could take long time to assimilate it in this team.other potential con is that for him only the team important as a group while the individual aspect is minor.could be a prob if some players would not restrain their ego.emrey on the other side has a awful away record because of his defensive play.Sevillia has no away win in la liga.pellgrini mybe?

What's going on with Koeman?! Jees - this is the longest goodbye ever!

By the time he leaves, we might already have De Boer!

pintsizedsaint: thanks for that. very interesting and I can see it working at Saints, Although we have been playing 442 or 4231, we have the players to play that way, and it might get the best out of Cedric. I am still holding out for RoKo to sack his agent and come back, but if not De Boer is my favoured choice.

Here's a similar analysis on Emery: http://outsideoftheboot.com/2015/07/23/tactical-philosophy-unai-emery/

Reading thi, it seems Emery is pretty much aligned with the Saints style of play. Yet more doubtful we would get him

Something else in FdB's favour, he turned down Liverpool in 2012 as he had just joined Ajax :)

I just have a misgiving that much of our success has been based on playing a 442/4231 set up, pressing high up the pitch (Lallana, Long and Davies are brilliant at it), though all teams to create a southamton way. If he does come, does he change the way the whole club plays or does he adapt to set up the team to play the southampton way?

Koeman is different to Mopo, being more flexible, but I don't think anyone can say the 5 at the back with 2 holding midfielders in front was great!
