Abbott: "We'll Cope Without Lee"

Abbott: We Can Cope Without Lee

Kenny Jackett led us into the season with four strikers on the books - Lee Trundle, Leon Knight, Rory Fallon and Bayo Akinfenwa. It looked potent at the time and there was some reassurance that there was back up incase of injury or suspension.

But that was before the fall from grace of Knight, the sale of Fallon, the broken leg of Bayo and the red card for Trundle last Saturday in Birkenhead. Four twists of fate that leave a strike force with one senior Swansea goal between them preparing to play Chesterfield on Saturday.

It's not as bad as it sounds - Abbott can score goals as he proved at Huddersfield and Chris Jones is highly rated by those in Swansea City and those that have seen him play at varying levels. And of course Trundle will be back for the trip to Millwall at the end of the month and hopefully the run in from there on in.

But life without Trundle for the next couple is something that Abbott believes we can cope with "It's unfortunate to lose Lee, especially as the sending off was pretty harsh," he told the Evening Post "Getting a yellow card for celebrating when you've scored is pushing it a bit too far. "It's inconsistent because you could do it on another day and nothing will happen, so I think it needs to be clarified. "It leaves us a bit short up front and the gaffer will be trying to bring someone in, but even if he doesn't we're more than capable of holding our own.

"I don't fancy playing up there on my own again, seriously, I'll do anything for the team and if that means playing one up front then so be it. "But I think Chris showed when he came on at Tranmere what a good job he can do. "It's really difficult coming on in a situation like that, but he still managed to get hold of the ball and cause them problems. "He's shown he can do a job, and it's going to be difficult for the gaffer because he's got to bring in someone who is better who's going straight into the squad.

"Tranmere was only one game and we're not getting carried away, but if we carry on playing like that then good times are ahead of us, "A couple of weeks ago we were written off, but I think it's going to go right to the end of the season."
