Neil is a bustling midfielder who signed for Colchester in December 2004 after a two month loan. He started his career at Blackburn Rovers where he failed to make an impression on the first team. He has had spells at Hartlepool and Blackpool after he found himself on the fringe of the first team squad at Ewood Park.

Danns' first season at Layer Road was a highly successful one, his energy in midfield has made him a firm favourite with the fans and his eleven goals in the league was a useful contribution to the team's success.

This season Danns has continued his good form, scoring eleven goals in all competitions, although he hasn't scored in the League since his double against Bristol City on the 17^th January.
