Daryl Murphy has confirmed his interest in a permanent move to Ipswich once his season-long loan from Celtic expires.

But Murphy, who has scored twice in his 17 appearances to date, admits he has yet to discuss the possibility of a deal with Town boss Paul Jewell.

The 28-year-old from Waterford said: “There’s nothing going on at the minute. The manager and I haven’t talked about it at all. I’m here until the end of the season — that was the agreement — and whatever happens after that we’ll just have to wait and see.

“Would I like to stay at Ipswich? Yes, I would. I’m really enjoying my time here and there are still a lot of games left to play. But the decision won’t just be down to me.

“I still have another year of my contract left at Celtic so for the time being I’m just concentrating on trying to do as well as I can through to the end of the season, getting as many wins and points for Ipswich as possible.”

Murphy is in his second temporary stint at Portman Road, having scored six times in 18 league games on loan from Sunderland two years ago when Roy Keane was in charge.

He is delighted with the way Town’s form has improved in recent weeks to lift them 10 points clear of the relegation zone going into tomorrow’s home clash with sixth-placed Middlesbrough.

Murphy added: “We’ve won our last two and I think the performances were quite good in the previous games. We deserved to get more out of these games but we conceded sloppy goals.

“But thankfully it has come together in the last two and we’ve had some good results. Some late goals, too, which makes a change because it’s usually us conceding them.

“It’s been brilliant for confidence. The buzz is back around the place and everybody is in good spirits.”
