Wiseman was a close season signing from Darlington in the Summer of 2008. Described as a versatile player, he can play in defence or in midfield, though his preferred position is definitely right back meaning he will come to Spotland looking to put pressure on Simon Ramsden for his starting position.

Dale supporters will remember Wiseman from his performances for Darlo in the 2007-8 League Two Play Offs. Wiseman played both legs against Dale, and was remembered for one particular run at Spotland which almost saw the right back score after a long run.

His career began with his hometown club when he signed for Hull City. Indeed, it's been claimed that in one way or another, he'd been involved with Hull City from six years of age, and it was no surprise when he was given his league debut by the Tigers at just eighteen.

He played for Hull during their ascent up the leagues, making appearances in Leagues Two and One before a number of games for them at Championship level. He did enough to attract a fair bit of attention, being called up to play for England at U-20 level.

However, Hull's success probably counted against him, as he found it difficult to secure a regular first team spot, and he was farmed out on loan to the likes of Rotherham and Boston, and it was during another loan spell at Darlo in which he impressed enough to secure a permanent move in the Summer of 2007.

That permanent switch didn't work out as well as it could have. He wasn't given the opportunity to force his way into the first team as a regular until the last couple of months of the season, though when he did, he did well enough to raise a few eyebrows when he was released as part of a cost cutting exercise at the North East club.

He joins Dale on a six month deal which will see him try and win a longer deal. Reports from previous clubs suggest that we've signed a player with plenty of potential, and given the track record of Hill and Flicker working with young players and bringing them on, we might be seeing quite a bit of Wiseman over this next season.
