It hasn't been his year...

Can't really think of him as a former Saint, but wish the bloke well anyway.

RIP Tony Knapp

Another Saint bites the dust. I make it only John Sydenham & Terry Paine still going strong from the 62-63 semi-final team. Must be something about being a winger.

England vs. Country where kids are being shot in the streets
at 09:02 21 Nov 2022

This is what happened to a friend of mine who was peacefully demonstrating in Rasht in Northern Iran last month:

It took him hours to find a doctor to treat him privately because security forces were patrolling the hospitals. He reckons he got off lightly.

In spite of Hajsafi's comments at the w/e, I'm not sure we should be kicking a ball around against a country where the regime is shooting its own citizens & providing arms to illegal invaders.

Could be the future but not sure if I like it. Might be interesting to watch a few incidents in a game, though.

Saints' record signings
at 12:27 3 Jun 2022

I was looking at this list of Saints' 10 most expensive signings:

https://www.hampshirelive.news/sport/football/football-news/osvaldo-boufal-lemin

The only real successes in there are Ings & maybe Adams. Some have been total disasters. Is it just poor recruitment on our part or are buys in that price range (15-20 million) inherently risky? To be worth that much they've obviously got something about them but maybe there's a reason, like attitude problems, why we've been able to get them.

Seeing we're likely to be shopping in that market again, I hope we make a better fist of it. We can't afford many more flops.

KWP for England
at 22:14 26 Mar 2022

What did we think of his 62 mins on the pitch? Had a big hand in the first goal with an interception but a bit disappointed that he didn't take players on more often seeing he was playing as an out-and-out wing back.

Solid enough though & hopefully did enough to get another chance.

FIA Ukraine

What a surprise that FIA aren't toeing the line & banning Russian drivers - as long as they compete as “neutrals”. No doubt it's all down to the money in F1. Neutral or not, I'm sure a lot of Russians will associate with Mazepin. The Haas team also happens to be sponsored by Mazepin's father's company.

I know you can't blame all Russians for Putin's insanity but these aren't normal times and sport should show a united front. (Same goes for Winter paralympics.)

Martinelli sending off
at 22:05 10 Feb 2022

Very unusual sending off in the Wolves vs Arsenal game tonight. Martinelli tried to stop a Wolves player taking a throw-in & then immediately chopped down the guy who received the ball. He was given 2 yellows at the same time. They could only find a handful of times it's happened in World football.

Probably 2 good results for Saints.

Inevitable I guess, but still a bit sad:

Always came across as a genuine & intelligent guy. Hopefully he'll go on to achieve something in another career.

Big result for Saints!
at 23:07 19 Dec 2021

(Women, that is.)

I know it's not everybody's cup of tea but Oxford inflicted a first defeat of the season on table-topping Ipswich. If Saints win their 2 games in hand they'll be back at the top.

Always looked like it would come down to Ipswich v Saints on the last day of the season.
