I think Marti said he'd had another setback. That was a week or so ago though.

True.

Nevertheless we've gained ten points over Cardiff and Plymouth and nine points over Stoke and Hull in the last ten matches. We can't afford to be complacent but we're definitely on a much better trend. I'm encouraged that one loss didn't end up in two and then a six loss slump.

Getting draws isn't great for points total but I don't think it wrecks the confidence like a run of losses.

He's got a hamstring issue so I can't see him being able to play full matches for some time.

Norwich out for revenge, QPR looking for a response - Preview
at 17:10 28 Dec 2024

I agree if we can get Chair and Frey playing I'm hoping they will be better at holding onto the ball which may take some pressure off our makeshift defence.

On a slightly more postive note it took 6 more matches and until the 29th January last season to reach our current points total.

QPR's unbeaten run crushed in Swansea Christmas horror - Report
at 21:09 27 Dec 2024

Lovely report Jamie. Couldn't see the match even on-screen but grateful to you for your being there (so we didn't have to).

A good sign for these things is where they manage to make even a dismal showing into an entertaining piece. You've managed it here, so thanks.

Just Back...

I agree.

Marti himself doesn't like kneejerk responses, whether that's getting carried away with imminent promotion when we win or throwing in the towel when we lose.

I realise I'm prone to be overly optimistic and am trying to curb that with a bit of realism . But FFS these injuries would affect most squads in the Championship. Just look what's happened to Man City with their embarrassment of riches with just a couple of players having past their best.

We can't afford to go on another terrible run but this only one match.

Haha!

Not great at that but genius at standing on one leg or the not blinking competition.

Sorry Clive for my involvement <hangs head in shame>....

Really? Ann Widdecombe? Myra Hindley?

I bet Brian and Konk for instance would beat me on many of these factors.

I don't really think these generally positive qualities are so gender specific. I do think socialisation plays a big part though. We shouldn't put people into gender straitjackets.

Based on how they were doing pre-Corberan this squad are currently over-achieving. Bit of a poisoned challice.

Oh well we did finally win at Forest eventually so it's possible to break these jinxes.

Happy Christmas everyone.

Love this site. Always diverting. As always grateful to Clive. (Sign up to his patreon if you can. Worth every penny).

It's got a lot of heart as well as knowledge and opinions.

It's like having a hobby that brings together a lot of people you wouldn't normally meet.

Those who are with loved ones I hope you enjoy being together and sending thoughts to anyone who might be on their own this year.

I'm just a bit concerned that Norwich are going to be particularly galvinised for our match there. We made them look very average in the second half at LR and they blame us seemingly for their ill-discipline against us (Gunn and McLean both got retrospective bans - with the latter back just in time to play against us - sigh). I think they may have to change how they deal with Smyth as he ran their leftback ragged and Sainz provided zero cover.

I'm more optimistic about Swansea. We did well against them last season.

Are we a "second half" team?

You're spot on. We're eighth in the second half stats (1.41 PPG) and 22nd in the first half (0.86).

Where are the "Nourry out" comments now ???
at 22:39 21 Dec 2024

Deffo some mistakes - unbalanced squad agreed. But not all bad. I'm impressed with the age of players coming in - having a couple of 18 year olds good enough to play in the first team plus a 21 year old CB, a good goalie, an excellent DCM who's only 23 all positives. Finding a decent striker is a perennial issue and not just for QPR.

Personally I like Saito and think Dembele shows promise. Fullbacks an issue but when did we last have two excellent FBs who we owned playing regularly?

Still has to prove himself more but has he really recruited that badly compared to previous execs

Interesting analysis from Leroy Rosenior and Tony Thorpe on City that I think our forward line could learn from, particularly the bit about movement in the box.

Kolli not scapegoat - he asked Marti to come off - had been ill midweek. His stats show this : 7 touches in 45 mins ; won zero duels ; no shots; one pass to a teammate. Alfie while not perfect made 27 touches and just caused more havoc to the City defence. Koki was nowhere near his best, Andersen poor, Kolli not his best. No wonder our midfiield was struggling: they had to keep winning the ball back / often had no outlet to pass to.

I agree about corners. Love Illy but baffled at how a generally good player technically is often so poor at corners.

4 Clean sheets in a row
at 07:25 12 Dec 2024

Fair enough but I do think he's doing more off the ball work than we had earlier in the season. Also Varane is winning more ball in midfield. My main point is when we let in goals it's not just down to the defence and nor is it when we keep clean sheets.
