It was reported a while back that we couldn't afford to pay compensation for a manager currently in work so I guess SR looked at the pool of unemployed managers and decided that Jurić was the pick of the bunch.

On reflection, under the circumstances, we could have done a lot worse.

With regard to the Club's finances, I really hope they can wait longer before selling Dibling, as his value is only going to increase with time. Selling a player who might one day be worth £100 mill for £25 mill in January, would not be sensible unless the Club is desperate for any money they can get asap.

I agree. My first post was a bit of a knee jerk reaction to the news. I've watched a lot of Serie A (on TV) in recent years and I quite liked his Torino team. We wouldn't have got an equivalent English manager of his calibre.

Kjetil Knutsen would have been my choice. He's someone who could have taken a club like ours, stuck with us for many years and given us the greatest spell in our history, as he's proved with his current club. BUT, he's turned down offers from bigger clubs than ours so we probably couldn't have got him here. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as Brighton's next manager though, as they've tried to get him in the past.

Jurić is a far less ambitious appointment. He has a record of avoiding relegation in Italy, which I guess is all SR were looking for. Anyway, I really hope it works out for him here.

Yes, he would be as he knows he'd struggle to get another job in Serie A after his recent failure.

"On 18 September 2024, Jurić became the new head coach of Roma, following the sacking of Daniele De Rossi after earning just three points in the first four games of the season. Jurić failed to turn the team's fortunes and was regularly criticized for his management style and poor results; he was eventually dismissed on 10 November 2024, after a 2–3 home loss to Bologna that left Roma 20th in the Europa League table and only four points ahead of the relegation zone in Serie A."

To be fair, some of the other names we were linked with, could have been worse. The very fact that Roma appointed him in the first place suggests that he can't be a total no hoper. So, let's hope things work out for him here.

He had one successful year as a manager, with Crotone in Serie B in 2015/16. Apart from that, his career has been nothing special. Let's hope that both he and we can repeat the 2015/16 season.

Sounds like West Brom fans are starting to turn against him, so he knows it's time to get out.

Lack of ideas is glaringly obvious - the players look lost and confused.
Always one step forward and two back…

"I don't understand why tv pundits heap plaudits onto CC. He is, at best, a middle of the road coach. As a long time Albon follower i can't see any real progression/threat under his leadership. I hope I'm wrong but i can't see us being promoted this season, either automatic or through the play-offs."

Carlos Corberan will be looking for a new job unless they pick up points during a very difficult Christmas period. I think if they don't get 9 points from the next 5 games he'll be gone.

We all know Ankersen's management recruitment motto:

# Embrace Failure

Of course, any sane person knows if you embrace it, don't be surprised if that's what you get.

A third mid-table Championship manager in a row and they expect the results to be any different?

Ankersen is stubborn and narrow-minded. There's a whole world out there to choose from, which is what successful clubs do, but, unfortunately for us, SR don't.

Good Premier League strikers, like top managers, don't usually come from the Premier League. There is a whole world out there to find one from, which is what successful clubs do. It will be useful to monitor who Newcastle are interested in now that they've got the best head of recruitment we ever had, Paul Mitchell, in charge.

He is a very likeable character, who brings a smile to people's faces and he tries hard. But, we really do need to buy a new centre forward in January as the ones we've got just don't score anywhere near enough goals.

He missed 2 absolute sitters, when it would have been easier to score than miss. One was a simple nod in with his head, which he couldn't manage and the other was a tap in from a few yards out, when he somehow got his legs all tangled up. I've never seen anything quite like it. I keep hoping that, one day, the ball is going to accidentally bounce off of some part of him into the net.

Everybody was cheering and laughing when he ran with the ball as it was like watching a clown running. In fact, it was like the cheering you get when a fan invades the pitch and then falls over. We knew at the end of the run, he would lose control of the ball. He looks so uncoordinated. BUT, you can't help but like him.

Now that we have a proper home end, I enjoy the atmosphere at games so much more. Our home games actually sound like home games now and we no longer have to put up with the away fans gloating at us from the Northam. Until they scored, I never even noticed there were any away fans there.

Unfortunately, something hasn't changed: we're still stuck with Alex McCarthy. Why oh why can't we get rid of him??? He's cost us so many games. I wonder what might have been over the years if he'd never come here. Maybe we'd have even won a trophy.

Last night's performance, although it was nothing special, showed the harm that a manager can do. Freed of the shackles imposed on them by Russell Martin, our team was at last able to play without the stupid sideways and backwards passes in our own half with which we've been gifting so many goals to the opposition, and instead just focus on trying to win a game of football.

According to the Liverpool sites, they'll be fielding mostly reserves, including a couple of youngsters from their academy, a bit like they do when they face lower league teams in cup games.

Nallo, Morton and Norris sound like definite starters and Nyoni is likely to play at some stage. Chiesa will make a rare appearance too. Only 3 players will remain from their starting lineup against us in the league game: Kelleher, Gakpo and Nunez.

Hopefully, we'll surprise them tonight by not passing sideways and backwards in front of our goal, although they'll still be looking to exploit McCarthy's limbo dancing whenever he faces a shot at his near post.

There were about 3,000 tickets left when I last looked, which is about what you'd expect for a League Cup game against a team we lost to at St Mary's before also losing our last 2 home games, 1-5 and 0-5. The price increase and the predicted gale force winds and heavy rain will put any fair weather fans off buying the remaining tickets. I expect the vocal support will be good though, as it was against Spurs.

The choice is being made by Rasmus Ankersen, the same as it always is:

They don't seem to know how to do anything else: a third manager of a mid-table Championship team in a row. It's as if that is their aim for us too.

They must look at the Championship table to see who the managers of the mid-table teams are. By the time SR and Ankersen finally depart, we'll have tried them all.

It is possible to bring in exciting managers from abroad, like all the top teams do, as Bournemouth and Brighton have proved with Iraola and Hurzeler, and as we once did with Pochettino and Koeman. None of them had "Championship experience" or even Premier League experience until they came here, which was probably just as well.
