Saito, stick or twist?

Stick. Clearly a talented player. Can't believe anyone would let him go from this squad.

It's good that the club have reconfigured "threadbare squad" as "creating pathways". Genius.

Russell Martin
at 16:32 12 Dec 2024

It was Clive's theory about Kompany at Burnley, which I think holds water there, given he was never going to stay long. He just wanted a stepping stone. I don't think it's necessarily the case with everyone, though. I think it's more that we've entered an age of managers as coaching brands, instead of personality brands – now they're selling their theories rather than their charisma. Lots and lots of them are all about "never sacrificing our principles" now, so they kind of have to stick by them or accept you're another hack manager who'll do anything to scrape mid-table. (Even Ainsworth was a brand in his own way. He certainly didn't have a Plan B.)

And it's not as though Russell Martin is in with the slightest shot at Liverpool/Arsenal/City/Chelsea/United or even Spurs/Villa/Newcastle. And certainly the managers taking the same line lower down the leagues aren't in any danger of attracting attention from further up unless they're actually winning games, as well as encouraging a 38-pass move between the goalie and two central defenders within their own box from every goal kick.

Patient stabilised but home win still proves elusive - Report
at 13:07 4 Nov 2024

I know we're all down on Madsen and Celar, but I thought both were genuinely good on Saturday. Celar missed the chance, but he seemed to me to have a good all round game, and Madsen did some lovely things, especially in close quarters and with long passing.

As a journalist, who deals a lot with PRs, reasons MC shouldn't do events like this (from the club's point of view)
1/ He has said uncomfortable things in postmatch interviews. Fu*k knows what he might say with people who aren't following the normal interview rules.
2/ People who are not following normal interview rules will also ask the kind of questions that might irritate him ie Why are you playing out from the back instead of booting it long like what I like? You don't want a ratty manager.
3/ You don't want hostages to fortune, like "I will get us in the play offs." Or even worse, "If they'd bought me x player, I would guarantee you the play offs."
4/ One problem this club has had for years is different camps pursuing different agendas and putting out different messages – academy v first team; Les v owners; Les v management. Just putting one person forward at least means one message.
5/ Lots of the questions that would be aimed at MC - those regarding recruitment and contracts etc - are better aimed at CN anyway.

Reasons he should
1/ Honestly, it looks shit if he doesn't.
2/ QPR is already developing a bit of a paranoid PR problem.
And those are both increasingly serious.

Does that mean he's in charge of water pressure in the Ellerslie?

Hammersmith Apollo ticket help
at 22:12 10 Sep 2024

On Twickets, you can put them up for sale before you have them – increasingly, gig tickets are sent out electronically a day or so before the show. You get all your money back if they don't materialise. And you are put in direct touch with the seller, so they cant hide.

It's much the best of the resale sites.

Dynamic Pricing
at 22:36 2 Sep 2024

They would want it in football because the big clubs want to reduce the number of season ticket holders and make many more seats available to casual fans. There's massive revenue differential between an ST seat and a casual one. And dynamic pricing will make it bigger.

Loftus Road renovation/revamp

1. Don't think moving a school to get a few extra seats in will win us many friends.
2. Who pays for building and equipping a whole new school? Think LBHF will be happy to pay? I don't.

TBF That "anyone but them" was also the entire point of Clive's preview. Not sure I blame a Luton fan for feeling the same way.

Celar
at 12:47 28 Aug 2024

I thought Celar was subject to unfair criticism after Plymouth. He did miss his chances, but look how he managed to create them for himself – the one he blazed over, where he brought the ball down and turned fluently. That counts for more, for me, than one bounced in off his shin.

Thought he looked pretty good last night. Not amazing, but pretty good, and I hope he carries on getting better.

Varane looks to me he like he might be the passive Samba Diakité. One minute he's running the game. The next you can just tap him off the ball or watch him fall asleep in possession. Is that better or worse than going mental and getting sent off?

Luton HOME Carabo Cup now on Sale

Typical QPR. Website says they're on sale. The ticketing site isn't selling them yet.

Edit: Sorry, the actual Ticketmaster bit is selling, but the ticketing page of the website does not yet have the clickthrough link.

First game was autumn 77, when we lost 5-1 to Everton at LR, and Bob Latchford got a hat trick on his way to 30 goals. Can't really get more Rangers than that.

In 34 years in journalism, I've never worked anywhere that gives copy approval. Not at any magazine – including when I edited FourFourTwo – or any newspaper. People think it happens all the time, but it really doesn't.

Leaving loftus road...
at 21:32 16 Jul 2024

All I want is for us to stay on exactly the same site, on the same footprint, in a 35,000-capacity stadium with room for 40,000 season ticket holders and 10,000 in hospitality. I want the stadium to have world class facilities, top-class bars with no beer costing more than a fiver. I want every seat to be reclining, with footrest, and fully sheltered, with no restricted views of any kind. I want the club to takeover and reopen Ocean Billy's like it used to be, and get Shepherds Bush overground station moved a bit north, so you can get out at the junction with South Africa Road.

I'd ask them to sort out the water pressure in the Ellerslie, too. But no point getting unrealistic.
