Marti's pre-Plymouth talk
at 18:50 17 Jan 2025

I'm not pretending I know, Gary. I'm not even guessing. Just wondering.

Cifuentes is the umpteenth manager that we've had this chat about. Maybe it's not the manager, is all I'm wondering.

I'm with you, by the way, I just don't understand it.

More and more I'm wondering if our managers are actually under tacit, if not express instructions to de-prioritise the cups.

Cifuentes has just got done for 6 goals in one of the three competitions we enter and he looks remarkably comfortable about it all.

Ok, thanks Terry.

That's that, then, I'd imagine.

I do think he needs regular game time if he's going to continue to develop, but I think you nailed it when you mentioned guaranteed game time at the loan club. Plus injuries here will probably mean that he stays for a few weeks anyway.

When does the loan window close?
Feb or March?

Good news.

I think he's got a lot of work to do yet, but he's a very exciting talent. Also, have to love having Rangers fans at the club. It just adds something warm, something uplifting for kids of all ages!

Realistically, the level is poor Paddy.

It is improving massively of late, though, and Irish players are much better technically than they used to be. Armstrong was odd in that he was far less technical than other Irish internationals of his age and relied on his speed and strength, a real throwback to oldern days in Ireland.

Ferguson's a quality player, a generational player for the League of Ireland, and I hope he recovers form and fitness.

As for Dillon, this was posted on this board a few weeks ago and I asked around about him but couldn't find out anything reliable, sorry.

Best of luck to him.

A game abroad - any recommendations
at 13:33 16 Jan 2025

Was over there last year and eight of us bought our tickets from the club. Sorry, never used a travel company either.

Can't recommend Athletic Bilbao enough.

Cracking stadium, great atmosphere (considering how few away fans travel in La Liga) and a superb city with great transport links.

P.S. Watch those kick-off times in La Liga. They move around a lot for TV.

P.P.S. Lots of local teams around the Basque Country if you want to catch a second game while out there. Buses are great, trains are sketchy enough.

Working Mens Clubs/ Constitutional Clubs.
at 11:04 16 Jan 2025

When we were teenagers and were in dodgy guitar bands, the only places that we could get a gig was the clubs - working mens', tories, catholic, anything. No gig money, maybe a pint each and lots of grief from the poor locals. how they put up with us, God alone knows.

They're nearly all gone now, and the couple that are left around Harrow seem to have gigantic yard sales on union jacks. They look like 1920's Raj Clubs.

Clive meeting with Nourry
at 10:13 16 Jan 2025

Thanks for typing all that up, Clive. Fair play.

On the one hand, he seems to be learning, on the other he's still spinning to save his life. The best new one is “we didn’t have any injuries” to report on.

He doesn't help himself.

This is brilliant.

Nonsensical (nobody's on a plane, at least not for very long) but brilliant.
