Right, John Coleman............lets see how tough you really are !! 07:57 - Mar 25 with 4081 views | TalkingSutty | The manager must be shellshocked by what he is witnessing at this club. I suppose he has to keep backing the players in public because they are the cards he has been dealt by the previous manager (Eyre). Until relegation is sealed he has to massage a few egos and continue to try to coax a run of performances out of the players at his disposal, its a situation which if he did have any hair (he hasnt) he would have pulled it out over the last couple of months. Prediction time, once relegation is sealed we string two or three wins together. All of a sudden some of them start to up their work rate and enthusiasm in an attempt to be retained by the club, it wouldnt surprise me. Once the season finishes i want to see the real John Coleman, he looks a tough cookie but is he really a sheep in wolfs clothing ? I want to see the biggest clear out since Cyril Smith had that dodgy curry from the Omar Kayam. I want him to be bloody ruthless with this lot and get rid !! John Colemans managerial reign starts once our fate as been sealed, thats when i will start to judge him. The players he recruits will be a reflection on himself, no big time Charlies or sulky petulant spoil brats. A team full of John Bowdens would be ideal, sadly they are few and far between these days !! Its not a exaggeration to say that a lot of the performances (Tranmere first half) have left me feeling physically sick this season and how those that travelled down to London yesterday are coping god only knows. No fight, no bottle, if it was a horse it would be put down in order to aleviate any more suffering !! [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Right, John Coleman............lets see how tough you really are !! on 14:34 - Mar 25 by NigelWatson | How many goals would he score in L2? What's his goal to game ratio since he's been playing for Dale? How did he do at Grimsby? Were you at the game yesterday? He didn't play very well (honestly). |
but i wasn't addressing his goals to games ratio, I was addressing what you said about him not being able to do certain things, when he quite clearly can. Just because he had one bad game it doesn't automatically make him rubbish, if we are choosing one game to judge players we could have the best side in league one.

Right, John Coleman............lets see how tough you really are !! on 12:37 - Mar 25 by RAFCBLUE | We don't have enough basis to anticipate anything as we currently stand. If the season ended yesterday (and based on the performance you could argue in the players minds it has) we need to find: * A goalkeeper * A right back * Two centre backs * A goal scoring midfielder * Two wingers * A 20 goal a season striker On top of all that, we need a number of individuals to be "squad" players either signed or via the loan system to supplement injuries/suspensions. As a comparator we started with 27 different players in the promotion season, I don't think we currently have either a) enough of the right individuals or b) head count depth to predict another top 3 finish at this stage. |
I agree with this We need a completely new spine for the team plus at least two midfielders, two wingers who have pace and can cross a ball, a big ugly, bully of a Centre Forward and a presence in the 6 yard box (poss Grimes if he gets some service). I have no idea who has a contract for next season and who does not but I am sure that a squad that is ours albeit with a few kids to make up numbers is a better bet than a small squad plus loans. If this season has proved anything it is that few premiership academy players are ready for first team football.

Right, John Coleman............lets see how tough you really are !! on 15:17 - Mar 25 by TVOS1907 | I don't want a goalkeeper who might "be OK", WD, I want one who is ours and who is better than OK. Agree with your other thoughts, except Reece Gray. |
I kind of put OK as I'm not sure we've seen enough of Lucas. I would rather have him than a succession of loanees though. Wish we'd kept OFW. As for Gray, again I've not seen enough to form an opinion but there is something in what I've seen.

Nobody has seen enough of Gray (apart from Tazbot), which says everything I need to know. Lucas came in as goalkeeping coach and while he has done OK, his injury and fitness levels are open to debate, although perhaps not as much as they were early season. If it was a toss-up between him and different loanees, then I agree, he would be the better choice, but I'd still rather we had a different keeper of our own. Personally I agreed with the release of OFW, although to be fair to him he seems to have done well for Tranmere. That doesn't mean Hill was wrong to release him, though.

It's a bloody joke that our last permanent (1st choice) keeper was Sam Russell. I have no problem with Lucas, he has been thrust in at the deep end and done what has been asked of him, but he was never signed as, nor intended to be a 1st choice.

Right, John Coleman............lets see how tough you really are !! on 16:33 - Mar 25 with 813 views | reggie_rocket | Extremely disappointed with attitude at Brentford. Brentford a poor team with little skill. What does it say about us? I don't know about attitudes of Grimes, Adams and Widdowson (who only got on because of injury) but I do know that they are better footballers than most of those who played yesterday - able to control the ball, pass, and in Grimes case score sometimes. JC needs to get the best from these players. He will get the best out of them by playing them. Of those on the pitch centre backs and keeper were OK, Tutte was good. Jordan terrible. It is a tragedy that JK has lost form in the last 2 crucial games. Until last 2 games he was my player of the season by a long way.

JLAA would struggle to get signed by a conference side. Yes, he can run, but he can't pass and has no positional / game sense. He's a very lucky boy to be a paid full-time footballer. Who would come in for him if he was out of contract? Seriously?? He has a fancy name and he's from France - and that's about it.

Didnt Dunphy say thats there is funds to mount a Div2 challenge next season.. This season as to be what a lot of people expected last summer. Dunphy as to back JC on who he wants to bring in.. Lets face it whilst Hill was here Dale had saleable assets, now look we have nothing worth a peanut.. JC as to get the players in early the coming summer which will boost season ticket sales, merchandise etc.. Also once its clear cut that we are down JC should blood the youngsters to see what they are capeable of..

I think those views are a bit extreme but have to agree he isnt of first division standard. To me i rate JLLA a moderate division two footballer, i cant call him a striker because he hardly scores any goals. The fact he has stood out a bit this season is down to the standard of player/lack of effort of others. Occasionally he will shine but its about consistancy and like a lot of the others he doesnt do it week in week out. Grimes is another good example, there is a reason why he cant catch the starting eleven or even get a place on the subs bench. This lad trains all week and you cant tell me that Eyre, Beech and now Coleman are all wrong, yet Ashley is right !! His attitude and workrate stinks, why else would he score a wonder goal against Huddersfield and then a week or two later he isnt even warming the bench. Its his sort of meandering, couldnt care less, whingeing attitude that destroys team spirit and gets teams relegated.

Hill didn't luckily get saleable assets, he created or moulded them. Fortunately John Coleman has some history of doing the same (although they have often been lost at the end of their contracts rather than being sold). I do pretty much agree with you though.

Adding Long and Symes would mean 10-12 new players but we need to be brave and recruit early - the new side will need a good long pre-season and to learn to work together. The eight opportunities to dip into the loan market need to be "with a view to a move" players and not players like Balkestein or Barnes-Homer. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

I would imagine Symes is a cert for us next year, regardless of which League we are in. Gornell could be passing us on the way with Shrewsbury, and Long will be back at Turf Moor. I can't see any way he'll be back at Spotland.

Right, John Coleman............lets see how tough you really are !! on 14:24 - Mar 25 by NigelWatson | Jordan was a disgrace yesterday. He wasn't interested in playing. All he did was berate his team mates, when it was always him to blame. He passed the ball effectively, but only to Brentford players. He wasn't up for running, he was prepared to walk (very slowly) for the team. Not up for tackling either. At the time it looked as though he was playing in someone else's boots (5 sizes too small) and his feet were killing him. Jordan's performance was the WORST I've ever seen from a Rochdale player - bring back Eric Snookes. JLAA looks good in a photo - a fine physical specimen. He's French too, so he MUST be good, right? Wrong: 100% crap, seen better players down the park. He can't pass, he can't find space, he can't tackle, he can't win his headers and he certainly can't shoot. He must be a really nice guy though, because a load of Dale supporters love him. |
Agreed. Jordon was woeful. In the 'Just got Back' column it was indicated that he was responsible for the second goal. I put him down as being responsible also for the first goal. When he had time and space he failed to clear the ball on the touchline and conceded a throw in from which Brentford got possession and went on to score.
