| how is anthony elding still in league one? |

"Kevin Amankwaah, worst player in Swansea City history" on 21:08 - Jan 13 with 5455 views | jonesy | I got all excited thinking we had a promising player in defence so texted my son who has been a Swindon supporter for 10 years or so (born there). Apparently he played during their play-off and relegation years and was f***ing useless in both. Let's hope Beech can get the best out of him.

I well remember what Oldham Pathetic fans said about a certain Chris O'Grady. FFS give the lad a chance before we start weighing him down with the jaundiced opinions of others.

"Kevin Amankwaah, worst player in Swansea City history" on 00:14 - Jan 14 with 5120 views | pl56 | Am I the only one who can't understand why we have yet to sign a traditional centre half . Amanankwaah is another 6 foot plus defender who is primarily a full back if I read things right , similar to Holden and Jordan . For the 20+ players signed in the last 8 months only Trotman was a true centre half ; others such as Holness , Jordan , Holden etc etc are the "tidier up " type of central defender , not the dominant force we desperately need at the centre of defence . For the whole season to date the acute need has been to replace Dawson , and none of the signings to date suggest any attempt to do so . Unless there is progress in this area with the signing of a dominant and commanding personality in this position , I fear we are doomed to relegation no matter what improvements are made in other areas .

To be fair I think you contradict yourself in your post, Trotman was an attempt to fill that post (although failed as we've seen). I would say Jordan is quite a dominant force and I would asume this was why he was signed, as an attempt to replace an irreplaceable figure. The management team also tried with David who, for whatever reason, hasn't played. Although I would agree fully that Dawson hasn't been replaced, there have been attempts and I don't think it's fair to say there haven't been. You're not the only person to have noticed the absence of a Dawson-type defender, and the management (both sets) noticed it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

No youre not the only one thinking that. Its been so obvious from the word go.We need a tall central defender, good in the air who is physical. All we hear is this forward that forward this full back etc.It stood out as a first prority and if it had been addressd we would not be in this position.Of course you could say where do we find one,but thats managements task, but it hardly seems mentioned.
"Kevin Amankwaah, worst player in Swansea City history" on 11:50 - Jan 14 with 4762 views | YouTubeDale | I would be surprised if Stanton wasn't canvassed for his opinion. I will never condemn a player from the off and will always trust the manager. But if Burton are getting rid, on the face of it, it doesn't give out the right vibes. If he was a really good defender then surely they would want to keep him. If he does play today I really hope he does a good job, especially in the air. This will be a real test. And it goes without saying that it also reflects very much on our management duo Beech and Kidd. Too many duff signings and they are out. Good luck Kev !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think its a 'horses for courses' type of signing, which is what we perhaps need. We dont need the greatest footballers at the minute, we need guys who can do a job for us, hopefully Kev is one of them. Although I will get slated for this, a Ben Futcher 'type' centre half next to Jordon wouldnt be the worst way to go.

Yes , I accept Trotman was an attempt to bring in the natural centre half I have advocated , and I welcomed his signing . However it soon became clear his form wasn't up to it , but what alternatives did we have ? None ; last year we would have had both Josh Thompson and Flynn , and when Trotman left , he would have been replaced like for like under the previous regime . Jordan like Holden has played most of his games at full back ; centre half is a highly specialist position and Jordan isn't that specialist . The simple principle behind successful teams has long been acknowledged to be a strong spine - goalkeeper , centre half , and centre forward . Look at us this season - 4 keepers to date , a specialist centre half (and one out of form at that) for a limited number of games , and no storng , powerful presence up front . No wonder we are in the situation we are when these same weaknesses exist now just as , or more so , they did at the start of the season . That to me is managerial negligence , and the Board have to take some responsibility for approving the commitment of resources on wholly unsuitable players to the level they have .
