Fascinating range of responses, which say, I feel, and not for the first time, much more about the respondents than about me. Quite a number of people have voted, which is the main thing, and which was my hope/aim. It's extraordinary how many people can't bear to just not vote but instead need to turn a perfectly reasonable, and topical, poll into an excuse to bash the poster over the head. The level of self-righteousness, preachiness, and scapegoating resentment by the few tells its own story. I think, and have said many times, that I like and admire Marti in many ways, but, for my own part, this weekend changed my view of him - not catastrophically, but significantly. But I'm just one vote and one man. I was, and am, genuinely interested in what others thought, and think, and thank them for expressing a spectrum of views. That was the idea, and that's what a decent poll here is for, surely - to hold up a mirror on behalf of those who contribute positively and passionately. [Post edited 13 Jan 23:26]
