And it is exactly at the point where we don't play high tempo the problems appear and yet if you are ahead in games you can still play at a high tempo but you don't need your full backs bombing on recklessly leaving us exposed on the wings also forcing midfield to drop too deep to cover the opposition's need to attack . |  | | |

All managers must expect their team to come under pressure at some points in a game, playing away from home the home teams fans expect them to attack unnumbered, if a team goes behind again the opposition must be expected to attack us.
We have to be set up to defend properly.
Cooper set up his teams to be hardto beat but struggledto keep the goals for tally up,
Martin's teams thought once we were on top then to keep pressure on we keep attacking with no hint of caution in the set up of the team.
Potter's team seemly got the balance a bit better but failed to defend against set pieces resulting in loss points.
William's has gone from the Cooper mode and now the Martin mode lets see if he can go to the Potter mode while being able to defend against the set pieces.
We have played some good football even against the top teams but we have also played badly in the same games.

We dominated that game until 60/70 minutes when the substitutions started happening. We brought in the likes of Naughton, Abdullai and Vipotnik, while they brought on physical, aggressive players who pretty much just bullied us and we were lucky to get away with a draw.
Whether that’s down to fitness or squad depth is up for debate, I’d say it’s a bit of both.
I remember commenting that if we were going to play like that, we needed to put the game out of sight before our starting eleven started to tire. | | | |

LW completely lost me after his press conference. Ashley Williams slaughtered Gary O'Neil on MotD saying he had no time for a manager who constantly blamed the players and not accepting any personal blame for the club's results. LW comments made O'Neil look like a saint. His man management and leadership against Sunderland was nothing short of a disgrace. Within 5 minutes of the restart it was obvious Sunderland had come out with a vigorous and energetic approach to the game. Did he adjust at all. Not one iota, oh than he his obviously he thought his plan was going so well, that after 70 minutes he kept with plan that he kept the formation just replaced personally. (As a side note Eom may well have gone on the pitch with a book to read.) LW post match attitude was like a spoilt 8 year old moaning that he did not get the Xbox he thought he deserved. He needs a massive about turn in attitude, which would seem to be out of his reach. Sadly I can see no positive future with him at the helm. | | | |

For me it's just the complete lack of any individuality. If any subs are brought on they are there just to do the same job. There is no individuality allowed within his structure and absolutely painting by numbers. This approach may succeed occasionally but cannot bear fruit long term. You literally turn up to a game and know exactly how it will go |  |

Against Leeds and Sunderland in the first halves we gave away leads or goals not because of poor quality players or bad fitness levels it was because we weren't set up defensively not marking correctly with adequate cover.
We do set up correctly at set pieces to stop counter attacks having the right players in place but in open play we did not.
To conceded the number of goals we did only proves the point.
Now some of the forward players are getting up to speed or returning we now need to look at the defensive side of the game and go back to being tighter at the back.
Because we have given goals away even to a number of lesser teams of late. | | | |

To his credit he has tried different things not making wholesale changes to the starting eleven trying to keep experienced players on the pitch for as long as he could some forced on him by injuries but the concept that attack is the best form of defence while it may be the preferred option and against more consistent teams you really don't want to be giving needless goals away by bad marking and making bad mistakes.
If you don't get your defence right you will struggle. | | | |

He’d be better off disappearing off on loan somewhere he can play 90 minutes in midfield regularly. He’s not coping with the pace and intensity at the moment and that would be worse in central midfield.

Abdulai has been a decent player for the u21s even when out wide, I expect Williams is hoping he will just click. But with the continual basic mistakes he makes there is no way I would put him in midfield. For some the step up is just too great is it nerves, confidence or just not good enough, who knows. |  | | |
