Sam Field or no Sam Field? 14:01 - Dec 8 with 7052 viewsQPR_Pro_Max

Though young and inexperienced, Varane and Morgan were making a big difference by more willing to carry the ball forward and making forward passes. While Field will 90% making backward passes or sideway passes if he is on the pitch. With such a negative style of play, it will definitely slow down the team’s overall movement and bring pressure to the defence or even creates chaos in our own half by inviting opponents immediate attack.

This passive mindset was one of the major reasons for the team’s low confidence to move forward and lack of attacking threat (toothless) for the last few months.

Varane and Morgan are the better midfielder combination for our success and very good saleable asset prospects by giving them more playing time.

Field is a good defensive player when we need to see out a game.

Field has been a little bit more attacking in recent games - when the state of the game has allowed.

Yes, Morgan plays a little higher and he can pick a pass but Field is absolutely indispensable in those away games when we look to absorb pressure and hit teams on the break. Absolutely indispensable.

I'd bring Field back in on Wednesday. Fresh legs and invaluable experience against a team who will run themselves into the ground to get something out of the game.

Field was basically MOM against Watford and only missed yesterday through suspension so he will be back starting against Oxford for sure .
Marti loves him also and he is always available to play despite all the knocks he gets fair play to him.

Morgan has been very good at home and was again yesterday, less so away from home. Field clear MOTM last week. What we should be celebrating is the fact that Morgan coming though means we are even having this conversation and that before we talk about Colback who by the sounds of Martis comment we aint going to see until the new year

Agree 100%

MC must keep an unchanged side for Oxford game and until we start losing. We won yesterday by getting right into Norwich faces for pretty much the whole game. When we win the ball high up we need to be more positive like we were yesterday. As with Chair and JCS, Field should wait to get his place back.

Agree in principle, though whether we have it about us to press as high and energetically in midweek remains to be seen. The poor lambs do get tired playing more than one game a week, don't they?

Predictably, everyone else is behind schedule vis-a-vis the club's recent kind bulletin.

Field seems best-fitted to be a shield, and I agree his lack of forward thinking/passing gets exasperating at times, so he's a player I'm ambivalent about.

Colback seems to be taking forever to get back in shape. He's not a player I much warm to, has obvious disciplinary issues, but he is effective and gives us ballast.

Frey, for me, shouldn't be more than an impact sub, and I don't think has the physical fitness to be a regular starter anyway, annoyingly.

What we get from Chair is likely to be the most pivotal from among our walking wounded, but how fit will he be after his lack of pre-season and limited/stop-start football in recent months? That worries me.

It isn't so much the injuries per se, but the imbalanced resources in the squad that hamper us, I think. Roll on the January sales!

Varane and Field have to be 1st choice. Noting conversation about who plays alongside Varane shows he is coming good.

Nice to have some depth in That area.

We know Field, Colback and Varane will pick up cards and the 3 game week needs rotation to keep the legs fresh

Morgan being able to step in without much drop off is a bonus.

Well Celar is out and let's hope Paal is to - he has basically given up for us. Yes, a great cross for Kolli's first, but he was god awful for the rest of the game.

So Kolli for Celar and Ashby for Paal and we go again.

Field for Morgan as the latter looked a little tired in the last 20 minutes yesterday. Sam is great; Morgan is one for the future and will be great.

Hopefully, Illy and Frey from the bench - they are going to need 20 mins here and there as whatever anyone on here REALLY thinks, they HAVE to be back in the team and firing asap. That will be difficult as they will need time to get back up to speed, something neither may not be permitted by the fan base.

Worried that we will underestimate Oxford - so QPR to smash three past Norwich and keep a clean sheet then follow it up with a 0-1 or 0-2 against Oxford. They will be towards the bottom by the end of the season, so exactly the type of HOME game we really should be winning...

Field has to start. When away from home Varane is also a must. But at home vs Oxford…..tempted to start Morgan.

Sam Field one of the first names on team sheet for me.

I’d like to see him get more goals but that’s not his core role

SF has his limitations especially at home but after his performance at Watford it would be a nonsense to leave him out Wednesday . Starting to like Varane more and more too. I think it’s Colback who may struggle to hold on to his place when he is fit

I’m wondering if Colback might be best off going elsewhere in January (if someone will have him) and he wage be put to better use.
I’d include Anderson and Madsen in that as this is a Division that needs robust players
Madsen I might be being hasty on
I’m also having a wry smile about how Celar suddenly seems to be a player after two goals and hitting the post in two games…… mmmmmmmm.

It would be good to see Varane, Field and Morgan start together as a three but that would require a change in system and most likely the dropping of Madsen, which may be two decisions, too far for managerial autonomy.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

There's always a good argument for not changing a winning team. But, as I think most in this thread have pointed out, Field is always a first pick for the defensive 2.

Oh, I don't know...

On another thread we're better off without Chair now.

No Field? No Chair? One home win, and - let's face it - do we really need a goalie anymore?

Field will surely play on Wednesday.....he is fresh from not playing on Saturday, played better than most all season and is a good defensive cover player.

Dont get sucked into how good Morgan is just yet.....he is doing well for a young lad but he still has many weaknesses. The key one is giving the ball away.

When Varane was rested, Morgan was just okay. I think Morgan's playing well wasn't because Varane was so good; it was more because Norwich was so off the pace. This is not to say Morgan is not valuable; he certainly is and is one for the squad now, not the future. He's already proven himself, in my view.

It should be Field and Varane, as this allows everyone ahead of them to stay ahead of them. This is important as Madsen cannot get up and down the field quickly enough.

Also, Field is entirely fresh, and we can now see the partnership with Varane devolpe. Not to mention, Field is useful for defending corners and getting back for those crucial tackles on the left side.

This also means Saito can stay forward a bit more, as Ashby is coming in for Paal, and he will need cover.

I doubt we shall see Frey on the bench, but it seems there is a chance Chair may be there, or it's still too early for him. Either way, we shall see what it means for Frey if Chair is present or not.

Oxford will be a grind game, we shall need Field for that. They will press us and charge into us, they won't let a kid like Morgan play. I fear Charity Park Rangers turning up again.

It's clear we need a LB and CF in Jan on loans as these are our weak areas in the squad. I would be greedy and want a creative midfielder as well. But we won't get that, as three loans would be way too much money.

zzzzzzzzzz

Respectfully, you might notice Morgan giving the ball away more because he doesn't always swivel and pass it backwards, he tries more forward options and not the easy way out.

We haven't won at home all season and frankly the football has been dreadful. Now we have won and against a supposedly decent team, everyone seems to want to revert back to what we were doing before. I just don't get it. Yes, Field was MOM v Watford but we are going to play Oxford at home and we should stick to what we did v Norwich. Maybe bring back Field when we play a more defensive away game.

Wasn't Madsen limping from the kick he received? I think there's a good chance Field will replace him in the side with Morgan being moved forward.

People should realise that when we attack, the opponent has to defend, and vice versa. There is only one team attacking and the other defending at a certain moment. When one team has an attacking mindset and emphasises on attacking, there will be less pressure/need for defending. All depends on what the team wants to do. Would you prefer an attacking player or a defensive player make the MOM?

One more factor is: the footballing skills and brains of Varane and Morgan will become better and better with more game time while Field won’t improve significantly at his age.

Conversely, the best way to start attacks is to win the ball back off the opposition. To do that you need to tackle. If you just wait for their attack to peter out with a bad shot/cross, you’re starting from your box. If you win the ball off them in open play the oppo might not be set to defend, and it’s the best time to attack. See Celar’ 2nd goal as an example.

Tackling has been our weakest suit all season. You pick the best tackler in the side. Madness not to.

Cook, JCS, and Field are the first 3 names on the team sheet when available. Those 3 played the last 10 games of last season when we picked up 19 points or whatever it was. And Field scored 4 goals in those games.

If you think not selecting Field is the solution, you’re misdiagnosing the problem.
