Presumably wasn’t fit for 90 minutes. I wouldn’t expect him to be after that long out.

It’s the same reason Allen plays an hour or so and doesn’t start midweek if he’s played on the weekend. Ronald and Franco rarely play full games either.

Allen has surprised me this season. Always available.

If Eom was fit, why did he not start?

Disrupting the march for a winner by substituting Vip and Ronald baffled me. I bet the Portsmouth manager couldn't believe his luck.

Agreed, Tymon looked outstanding at times today.

He takes him off whatever the score .

Tymon is everything Williams wants Abdulai to be.

Tymon is hardly a good defender but he has merit in going forward when he’s not passing 45 degree backwards . He has a great cross on him .
Abdulai has nothing at all on his locker .
To bring him on the field of play when the likes of Franco are taken off and not there to start says it all for me really.
This league is so level it’s crazy
Nobody is safe
Ergo,we shouldn’t start a game as if Pompey don’t deserve to be on the pitch . Today was a day to go for the throat rather than ankle tap.

Another Tymon on the right side would see the swans clean up. I couldn’t get Key’s role today. He was in midfield for ten minutes.

It sometimes baffles me. Allen was running the show second half then he lumps him off.
He could surely have done another 10/15 mins.
Pearl-Harris is awful, yet rarely gets substituted. Has he a contract to say he must play 90 minutes?
Abdulai? Dear me.

It’s hard to justify when he’s been anonymous for 70 minutes. I know he scored a cracker midweek.

I would actually have rathered leave him on and bring on Bianchini wide instead of Abdulai, but he wasn’t really justifying his place on the pitch.

Why didn’t we see Franco? Is he that knackered? I was expecting him on for Allen.

A lot of them were poor or anonymous for the first half at least. Frustrating watch again and Williams doing his future prospects any good with his subs again.

Allen is way past his past .However, even at this stage , he can be so effective ,far more so than our skipper, who again was seen dribbling the ball towards his goal line instead of simply clearing it from danger.
Basic stuff .
Branco is subbed at 70 mins no matter what as is Vip,even when chasing a winner. Its not funny anymore .
Abdulai should not ever wear our shirt .

He could easily play midfield - he’s far more suited there . He’s our best (I know it’s a rugby term but) “ball carrier”. That is when we look so much more dangerous when the ball is brought forward because we are not good at passing thr ball forward quickly enough.

When he carries the ball forward thr oppositions set defence which is expecting us to slow pass them into a state of zombiefication all of a sudden gets pull around all over the place with defenders coming out of position and leaving gaps. These gaps are perfect for Cullen to exploit and bring other players into dangerous positions where we can hurt the opposition.

It’s not rocket science and I’m at a loss to see why Williams is unable to see this or does see it but ignores the tactic. The big problem I suppose is who do you drop in midfield. Franco is our best midfielder, Cullen is playing like a perfect 10 so that only leaves one who to my (admittedly sometimes poor but I’m old) memory has never even been substituted let alone left out .

I think you might guess who I mean.

In this ideal scenario we would need a pacy right back both good defensively and a decent crosser of the ball. Something for the January transfer window maybe?

Both he and Key really should play wide midfield .
Tymon is a good crosser but mediocre defender ,as is the case with Key .
Key loses he ball too easily .
Having Naughton at right back has always killed us and now it really should never be seen .

Cullen is looking so much better currently. We all know he can't do the CF job (to be fair we never expected him to,he was just filling in as the best option at the time) but as a 10 his head is up looking for the next pass immediately.

Cull's has been like a breath of fresh air and it coincides with his selections for Wales and his performances for Wales, big shout out to Bellamy I think he's made a massive difference to Cullen's game and performances, I don't think its a coincidence.

Yes, I’m not singling Vipotnik out. A few were below par in the first half, including Grimes. You can hardly argue with taking him off though. He had his usual game.

It’s a lot harder carrying the ball through a congested midfield than it is down the touchline. I think the calls for Key at *10 and now Tymon in central midfield ignore that.

I think Eom is our best suited player to that type of role.

So what happened after they scored their second, we all know what happened before, bad choices in tight areas of the pitch, so how did we put press on them, basically we attacked the ball be it in the air or on the ground maybe they dropped the press.
Simple really get the ball quickly forward going in the right direction, surprising a centre half attacking the ball in the air the other covers,.midfield secures the ball from knock down going in the right direction not having to endlessly drop deep, keeping the midfield high up the park, quite happy for the ball being played back to the keeper with the option to play the long ball while we have more players higher up the park seems quite sensible.. Our full backs deeper in better positions to cover wingers or able push forward onto loose balls.
All for possession football but not constantly in our half when a team trys a press. Two goals was a big ask to recover with us conceding pitch position at throw ins only going back to the goalie, when we actually get the ball ln the opposition box we caused them no end of problems, we put high crosses, low crosses but we are not prepared to put a throw in into dangerous areas of the pitch to give our forwards a chance to do something with it and give the opposition something else to defend.
The play changed because we forced it to change, at the end of last season our defence started to attack the ball more enabling the midfield a chance to keep us on the front foot, very hard if the likes of Grimes has to spend the game chasing the ball deep into our half time after time.

Or you could say they didn't have the energy to continue with the intensity of the high press by four players and dropped off slightly allowing us to bypass the press. Once we were through the press they didn't have the numbers to defend properly, that's why they have one of the worst defences in the league conceding an average of 1.88 goals a game. Incidentally our average is 0.94, silly mistakes cost us nothing more nothing less.

Silly mistakes in our half of the field, or in the case against Leeds silly mistakes of not covering the counter attacks in open play by overcommitting, in both cases exactly the same mistakes as under Martin.
Different styles of play at times but both fielding teams not set up to prevent thosse errors.

So basically you are saying as long as teams don't keep up a press we will be ok , Leeds didn't, these silly mistakes are errors that are forced upon us but we leave ourselves open to them.
These are not just silly errors they happen too often they are errors that we should not be making, players in the right positions taking the right options.
