Just been reading that if we win today we pocket £45000......enough to keep the lights on a bit longer. Plus we are then guaranteed a further taste in the next round win or loose. Looser today gets £15000. These are useful figures to a Club like ours. Let's give it a really good go!

I think it's perfectly fair to say that we started yet another game on the back foot . This allows the opposition to attack us and race into a two goal lead We then manage to turn it around into a winning position before some strange managerial decisions lead to us losing a game that we were capable of winning.
Fair or not? It's becoming tedious.
McNulty is not learning.

There's a recurring theme with how we start games, we never come out of the blocks. There's a recurring theme with how we keep gift wrapping goals to our opponents. There's a recurring theme with how we keep finding ways to snatch defeats and draws from the jaws of victory. We need a strong vocal leader on the pitch, somebody to get hold of the team by the scruff of the neck. As a team we are very naive and so is the manager, we have a soft underbelly. Good teams don't lose that game today, they stick the knife in, the manager decided to do the opposite and invited our opponents on to us when we should have been keeping the ball in their half of the field. Yes, it might have been good for the neutrals to watch but to progress as a club we need to win football matches and today we surrendered the game when we had it won.
Yep, we need to start being far more clever, as previously posted in this thread, manage games better. The annoyance when other teams kill the game only serves to illustrate what we are missing.
Even from the start it needs that on/off pitch leadership to get the ball in the opposition half for a bit instead of the predictable messing about.
McNulty and his players messed up today, they have to learn quickly. If not, it’s going to continue to make all the obvious progress irrelevant. With all the recent signings, we’ve missed a trick not getting a Jones or a Cavanagh in. I’d swap 3 wide players for one of those.

Commented on the starts. It’s ignoring the rest that isn’t fair. Because today we saw a manager who changed our formation immediately and then again with Henderson’s introduction, change it again.
Does he deserve no credit for that? Playing one in midfield from the 10th minute turned the game, Bromley were totally confused at where Burger was employed. So he is learning to change our formation rather than stick to one way of playing.

There are of course also positives to take from today. When we play our football in our opponents half as we did today with a high tempo, two touch, pass and move style then we can cut through any team in the lower leagues, that's how good a lot of our offensive footballers are. Dennis also looked good, he's got a good touch and looks to get a shot off, i hope we get him fit. Let's cut out the risks at the back, try to progress the ball a bit quicker up to the halfway line and we should be capable of blowing teams away. We also need Mc Nicholas back in goal, he's been a big miss.

There were plenty of moans after the Southend and Braintree games about a lack of goalmouth action. Well, that one could have finished 6-6 or 7-7. Both keepers pulled off some fine saves and the Bromley goal seemed to lead a charmed life in the second part of the first half. We simply can’t continue to give opposition teams an easy start to games to games though either through sloppy defensive errors or a sluggish mentality. Today certainly raised the bar though in the long catalogue of defensive howlers. I thought BJ got most of his substitutions right but I’m beginning to wonder about the plan of trying to defend a lead by bringing Ferguson on as defensive kingpin and shifting Hogan to the right hand side. It didn’t work against Halifax when they equalised with a header and it didn’t work this afternoon. Previously this season the plan has been to bring on Armstrong in place of the left wing back. That might have settled things down a bit more successfully instead. Whilst obviously disappointed by the result I think we would have beaten most NL teams with that sort of attacking intent today. After the first four minutes anyway. Good to see the average home gate maintained anyway. And a lot of the squad men should get a runout on Tuesday.

It's the simple, repeated mistakes that are so annoying, and costly.
Bromley's first two goals - we've done the tippy tappy tripe discussion way too many times. Why the proverbial penny hasn't dropped that you can't spend the first 10-15 minutes of a game "feeling your way in" like it's a training ground exercise and expect the opposition to let it happen is beyond comprehension.
Look at the way we regained the lead v Halifax, and kept it. Dale were exemplary. We used a few dark arts but mostly did our damndest to keep the ball in their half. That way, they can't score. Jim's subs today reverted to his old favourite fail of "one goal lead, lets defend it" which his teams struggle to do. We gifted them presence in our defensive area and they took advantage. Can't do that if the ball is near Pearl St. Why, when we proved we can keep a lead a better way? Going forward today, we were great. It worked, got us back into the game. So why the fook does Jim have to do the opposite and go all defensive when a win is so near?
The misattribution to Einstein re: “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” was aired in Ratcliffe's after the game. Not for the first time. We have good players this season. We've won well numerous times this season. The calibre and tactics are there. Use those instincts, those skills.
Jim is on the cusp of something good for RAFC and his reputation. Ignoring the bleedin' obvious , as has been done too many times, unnecessarily, is pure folly.

First time in the Sandy for 12 years and a great experience standing left of the post today. We took my mates 14 year old lad in there for the first time.Hats off to the hundreds or so of young lads backing the team with the drum, I'm sure the players love it. Better support than in my heyday 1990-2000 before i switched for a seat.

When you actually analyse the advantages of playing it out from the back i don't believe it influences our opponents enough to be the deciding factors in games, in fact i think it's counter productive in a lot of cases and encourages our opponents to press us and score from our numerous cock ups. Of course there will be instances when we draw them in and play through them but they don't happen with regularity. The deciding pattern of play is always in and around our penalty area and it appears to me that playing down both flanks quickly is our main threat when attacking. Invariably when we pass the ball in triangular patterns in our half it ends up back with the goalkeeper who launches it forward, or it ends up with Beckwith or Gordon who do something that could have been done six passes earlier, give the ball to Alirakhia or TAR as a first option and eliminate the risk of losing the ball around our own penalty area. Another thing that needs mentioning is our inability to cut out crosses at source. The third goal of Bromleys near the end should never have happened because he shouldn't have got the cross in, basics when you are in the last minute of normal time. Our defending needs looking at, it's amateurish and embarrassing at times.
The decision making at times is also poor and so is the game management. Approaching the 90th minute yesterday we are 3-2 up and we have a goalkick, you would expect Robson to launch the kick long into one of the corners of the pitch and us to attempt to keep the ball down in that area of the pitch. Inexplicably he takes the kick and it barely reaches the halfway line, our opponents pick up the next ball and from that moment on they change the game. Little things but examples of how we continue to self harm. The basics of football never change, if we are playing the majority of our football in our opponents half we won't concede as many goals and will win more games than we lose. We have the players to do that but unfortunately the managers search for some sort of on pitch footballing utopia constantly keeps coming back to bite us from a defensive perspective. Sometimes it happens and we score a wonderful team goal but a goal is a goal irrespective of if you achieved it in twenty passes or two.
There are things that aren't right and they have to come down to the manager, a simple one is why do we start games seemingly on the back foot in every game? We also started the second half very poorly yesterday and only two great saves and a goal line clearance prevented us from conceding again just after the whistle blew to start the half. It's like the players heads have been filled with so much magic prior to them leaving the changing room they forget they have a game to play. Give the players clarity of thought and let them attack games from the first whistle, it will energise everybody including the fans. Self analysis and flexibility are two traits that i hope McNulty possesses, he isn't a million miles away with how he has us playing but with subtle changes and a plan to eliminate the unnecessary risks at the back we could be so much better. At the moment we are beating ourselves in a lot of games and there's no signs of it stopping.

Well, I still feel a bit sick after that result. On a par with that Walsall game where we hauled ourselves back from two goals down to take the lead in the last minute only for them to launch a speculative ball into our box from kick-off, from which they scored. That was the end of any hope of avoiding relegation. Yep. Very, very disappointing.
The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

Im guessing thats the fastest ever goal scored at Spotland?
Fastest I remember was Paul Connor v Huddersfield, around 19 seconds I think? Also sure we scored even earlier against Peterborough one year but not too sure on that.

I have to agree with many comments, can McNulty learn from the mistakes, I hope so, because if McNulty succeeds, then the Dale succeeds, but based on the evidence of conceding absurd goals due to poor defending based on passing across the defence and goalkeeper, I have my doubts.
Again listening to McNulty, he bemoans us conceding the two early goals, but it is his tactics of buggering about at the start of the game that was the cause and as others have mentioned, we do it virtually every game and have conceded goals, yet nothing changes.
I am convinced that squad is good enough for the playoffs and promotion, and especially when we get the injured players back, we just need to more proactive in the early stages.
I thought Bromley was a big physical team, but did not look that good, they will do well to survive in the EFL this season.

Dale the better side for 80 minutes or so...
25 seconds into the game Beckwith mistimes his clearance and we dont clear the second ball. Seconds later we are losing 0-1. I am sure the second ball fell to Burger who would love the chance again I am sure to react differently.
Then on 140 seconds a moment of madness from Hogan and we are 0-2 down and the Bromley supporters joined in with the Dale supporters head shaking in Pearl street.
Big Jim and the players have to address how we start games because this is border line comical. Gifting one goal at Barnet on 6 minutes was bad enough but that yesterday was gut wrentching.
From this point Dale looked the better side but the damage is already done. Just clear the lines until the game has settled down not try and mess around until the game pattern has established..
Credit to getting in front 3-2 up in the 90th minute.. Then Buyabu is out muscled in the corner and we enter the second crazy 2 minutes in the same game.
We have the players, cut out the nonsense and we could still have a great season.
Ignoring Tuesday Lets hope Sutton are not the next beneficiary of our charitable status.

Having seen the goals now, we were so poor defensively, that’s without doubt. On the flip side our goals were excellent. Particularly liked how Beckwith got forward and looked to get shots off, it helped that we were so attacking and he had so much space to move into.
If we could play like that with the defensive steel seen against Halifax, there would be few complaints.
