Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 21:20 - Sep 21 with 1760 views | SullutaCreturned | OK, got home 10 mins ago and would like to point something out...the penalty claim, there was lots of pushing and shoving and maybe the ref gave Cabango the benefit of the doubt BUT out on the wing, the player who crossed the ball, he clearly handled it before he crossed it so it being given would have been harsh. Everybody did well today, Cooper and Cullen ran their socks off and if at times the tempo dropped and we slackened well lets be fair, we had been on top for ages and had worked extremely hard, a bit of a slack period was to be expected. It was the best 90 minutes I've seen, we beat Preston more convincingly but Coventry are a better team, in my opinion anyway, and what happened today took a lot of hard work and some very good football.

Easy to say when you win in the sunshine but I really rate Coventry as an away day, their fans are really sound. We are once again comfortably and clearly wales’ number one club. The natural order has been restored.

Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 21:00 - Sep 21 by DaPs166 | Incredible today. I was so impressed with how we played in the first half. And the second half we showed once again that we can weather a storm and hold onto a win. Our pressing was fantastic. Players really fighting to get to the first ball and also to block/turn over possession. Much more direct and positive passing. We looked so comfortable. This is the best I’ve seen us play for a long, long time. Well worth the trip up, the 5 hours driving and the parking ticket I got 😅 |
Glad you enjoyed your day DaPs...parking ticket excluded.

Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 08:04 - Sep 22 with 1177 views | libertyx | Coventry always great day out, not too long a journey. Bus stopped a couple hours in Bromsgrove where most of the regulars piled into the Wetherspoons. Great football first half reminiscent of the better days, and a battling second half. At the end of the game every player deserved the applause and love from the fans. My man of the match was Ben Cabango, but it was hard to pick a winner.

Some slight concerns that keep reappearing, like us losing momentum in the second half either through tactical choice or an inability to react to opposition changes, but otherwise we have to be happy with that.

Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 17:12 - Sep 21 by onehunglow | For once can’t complain about an English ref. Frankly,a quite shocking decision that ,had it been us, we would have gone full tilt . Our final ball is still atrocious We have little strike power Reality though ,as Ibsee it,this league is nothing for us to be fearful over . In fact,we should be looking at ways of getting out, upwards, not just surviving . Larry is becoming a terrific keeper ,no question. Franco a real fighter ( sounds wrong that) and Cabango again rock solid apart from the handball However, why bring three aging players together . Yeah,to see the game out with 15 mins left Anyway…it’s a win Much to do but three point |
Linnington still owes us from the league cup debacle at home against Scunthorpe in 2009. I’ll never forget that game

Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 17:38 - Sep 21 by jack247 | That’s the best we can hope for when we’ve effectively got one striker. Fair play, Williams is grinding out the results. Can’t imagine how Potter, Cooper or Martin would have managed without a goalscorer. |
We have more than a potential goal scorer on the bench who didn’t even make it on to the pitch yesterday. All because Williams tactics including the pedestrian midfield can’t provide quick enough forward ball for him. I’m amazed how some can write off a player considered good enough to play in the Euros after a manager with no tactical nous can’t be bothered to get the team playing to his (and Eom’s , Ronald’s and any other attacking players) strengths. Perhaps with that approach we would kill teams off rather than settling for 60 minutes of biting nails. All of our players need to introduce a ruthlessness into their game.

Very few if any people have written Vipotnik off. He’s drastically unfit though. I’m stunned anyone who has seen his cameos for us can’t see that. Until he’s physically capable of playing his role properly, we’re going to be looking at Cullen until he tires then a patch job like playing Cooper or Peart-Harris there nominally. To me, that’s very likely the weakest strike force in the division. In the games he’s played, the quick forward ball would be useless because he doesn’t make runs. I’ll judge Viootnik as a player when he’s 100%, but I’ll admit I’m frustrated at how long it’s taking him to get there. I don’t think Williams is getting enough credit from certain quarters. When he doesn’t have the fire power, the best thing he can do is make us hard to break down.

Agreed. Our forwards have to be able to close down when we don't have the ball. Failure to do this renders the work done by the other players pointless, the opposition can just play their way out. Vipotnik is nowhere near fit enough to do this or fit enough to make runs after 15 minutes on the pitch. Whether he can get fit enough we will just have to wait and see, he has potential but what he has displayed on the pitch so far is just not good enough.

Why is Vipontik so unfit he took part in Euros, did he go on some sort of binge, surely he should be somewhere near fully match fit

In fairness, he does do this. Problem is he does it a couple of times and he’s panting. Then he just physically can’t do it. I haven’t seen him make runs in an attacking sense, he’s just static. What I like about Williams is he’s just got on with it. Played good football at times, but the majority of the last two games was grinding out results with the players he had. I’d expect similar next Sunday. Can you imagine Martins reaction if he was left with one fit striker? Or Coopers?

His going to the Euros could be overstated, according to this he played 14 minutes and did absolutely nothing. I really hope he comes good, but I have seen little from him up until now. As for his lack of fitness who knows. https://www.uefa.com/euro2024/teams/players/250112451--zan-vipotnik/statistics/

I agree Ok,he can look a bit of a slug but I’m sure he could finish . It’s about playing to suit his abilities I get the impression he will be treated like the Uke . I’m not a Lukey boy ,granted

I see he played a full season at Bordeaux last season. So it is a bit of a mystery why he looks so unfit, he's only 22
