I must have selective hearing, all I took away was what a horrible bully and negative impact Barton was during his time at the club. Not sure Clint would want to be associated with him either. I thought that was a great and honest interview by Ned (who is not my favourite pundit) and being accused of bleeding the club dry is a bit harsh. We didn't start winning again until Barton returned. Onouha just seems to shrug and blames the lack of application on the manager. Weak.
Barton left following the relegation in 2015, went to Burnley and immediately got another promotion. Onouha left 3 years later when the parachute payments dried up, after captaining us with one of the highest wage bills in the division, barely getting out the bottom half.
I don't particularly love Barton the QPR player, he never really met my expectations on the pitch, but you've gotta be having him over most of the players that went through QPR during our Brink's-Mat robbery years.

I watched that team play every week and Barton was mostly poor. He got booed by the fans for his performances and admitted that he only joined the club for the money.
Part of the playoff winning team but it shows how low our standards are that he was allowed back and applauded by some despite belittling our club.
Weird flex to suggest that he was some kind of positive force at the club because you like his tweets harassing women on X but I suppose that’s the way of the world these days.

Are we surprised we're Barton's least favourite former club? Are we surprised he was getting pissed off with people? Most of his time here, we had a playing squad and management team of absolute dossers. I would be pissed off about it too. We should all be.
We'd also be Nedum's least favourite former club, had he been able to get a proper move after his contract expired, and not dropkicked out to Salt lake. Sure, he's too shy to admit it, or say what we'd been paying him before the "You've consistently failed, just leave now please" contract offer, but it's pretty evident.

Regarding Barton the player, I agree with you by the way. I really didn't', and don't like the man, and wish we hadn't signed him. He spoke, and continues to speak about us in a pretty disrespectful way and I've always felt he thought of himself as a better player than he actually was. BUT, I did see a player that always left it all on the pitch, even when he was sh*t, which he was quite a lot, he didn't hide during a game like a Andre. If he was a youngster that came through our system or less of a tw*t, I'd probably be a lot fonder of him. And that list of midfielders you've put up is quite horrifying because I agree, Barton is probably better than all of them. Faurlin and Derry off the top of my head would probably be the only ones I'd put above him in terms of centre mids we had during that time, although if pushed I'd probably concede he was a better player than Derry, not Ale though.

Not seen anything from Clint recently but wouldn't be surprised if they've fallen out. Still don't see how that changes what went on during those years. It's not just Derry and Hill, Mackie liked him, quite a few of the old 10/11 promotion team (who'd only just about been tolerating Taarabt) were keen on him. Think Nedum mentioned that Danny Simpson was a Barton fan.
But yeah I agree with your post overall, of course I do, I'm a QPR fan who watches the team. What I struggle to get my head around is the revisionism. We're all expected to act like Nedum was a great servant to us, while Barton is part of the reason we're in the predicament we face now. We bang on and on about the culture at the club being in the toilet, but as soon as the topic of Barton comes up, we've all got to insist he was a bully because he demanded more from people who we all acknowledge weren't giving their best.

I think it's a stretch to describe Barton as 'demanding more from people' when he was attempting to injure teammates, get managers sacked and headbutting opposition players.
Listening to that Onuoha podcast, he talks about helping Eze when he was first at QPR with the elements needed to round out his game, teaching him what it takes to be a pro. He does rather jaded about his QPR experience but he's never spoken negatively about the club in the same way Barton has.
The anecdote about the training 5 a side tournament where Barton threw a strop and cost his teammates the forfeit felt insightful. Stroppy and self interested when things aren't going his way and bullying and nasty to any dissenters.

But why would he say anything negative? He had our pants down for 6 and a half years while our club and his career drifted toward the lower end of the championship.

Ned was far from the most gifted but he was pretty dependable and worked hard for club. If he was pulling the clubs pants down why extend his contract and make him club captain? You can't blame him for the 4.5yr contract and he must have taken a drop in wages for the Championship contract extension.
Rarely injured and 207 appearances, if we were discussing SWP I would totally agree.

I suspect the 20 plus wins had more to do with our FFP breaching wage bill, and the signing of player after player, than any supposed qualities that Barton had.
