No you're correct. And they are definitely not in a position to be able to borrow any money. Cash flow, as in having money in the bank to pay for stuff, is likely to be a serious problem for them before too long

The Russian Bloke at North Battersea on 13:20 - Mar 11 with 2686 views | BostonR | The depth of dirty Russian money in the UK and in particular London, is really starting to unravel. Alexei Navalny, currently in prison in Russia, knows where the bodies are buried. Lavrov, Russian Foreign Affairs Minister currently has two wives, one official and a mistress as does Putin. Lavrov has a step-daughter ,Polina, from said mistress, who currently resides in a £4.4M apartment in Kensington. The apartment was paid for in cash. Polina has no means of income other than her relationship with Lavrov. There are literally £Millions of unexplained Russian wealth in London. Navalny knows their dirty secrets and I suspect we have not heard the last of the Chelsea story.

Why would Abramovich agree to that? They expect him to just gift the £3 billion away? Like with his other properties, he would be better off just trying to wait out the sanctions. If you were him, would you give the club away when sanctions might be lifted in a year? What will happen is a legal challenge, which will be long and drawn out and if that means the club goes into administration in the meantime, so be it. Abramovich, Mel Morris, whoever, first interest is themselves and forget all the cuddly fan stuff about Abramovich, Chelsea was always first a business to him. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

"Why would Abramovich agree to that?" Abramovich will have no choice in the matter - HMG is saying: "We're taking every last rotten rouble of yours we can find, and that's that" I mean, he's not even allowed back into the country to appeal his case, while no other country which counts (EU, Switzerland, USA etc) will allow him to bring any sort of a legal appeal. And even if he could find somewhere, he has no grounds, since sovereign governments may do whatever the hell they like in such cases. All of which explains why he put the club up for sale last month, with the stewardship to go to a trust and the net proceeds to go to Ukrainian relief etc. This was a pretty transparent ruse whereby if he gave up the 10% or 15%(?) of his wealth tied up in CFC, then maybe they wouldn't come after the remainder. And for once his manoeuvering failed. Anyhow, I hope the whole rotten club dies on its arse, so that Brentford can once again reclaim its rightful position as West London's leading football club. The Russian Bloke at North Battersea on 10:48 - Mar 11 by izlingtonhoop | It's over simplistic, but the capitalist system as it has evolved over the past three or four centuries. owed and owes its very existence to the enslavement of millions of human beings in the 18th and 19th centuries. Edit: a system which the British and the British economy were at the very heart of from its inception. [Post edited 11 Mar 2022 12:21]

I would have a quick look at the Egyptian Greek and Roman Empires and realise a form of capitalism based on the some form of subjugation has been around for a bit longer than 300 years. Most of Arabic Trading routes included/s Slave Trading just the time it took travelling that stopped most of the those involved from spreading it worldwide. Fairly certain similiar practices saw Homo Sapien treat Neanderthal pretty shabbily who also had done the same to Cro Magnon man. It's nature sadly

But his assets are frozen, not seized as far as I am aware. Just like properties in similar circumstances they can get boarded up and often left for years. He might not be able to get back in the country now, but maybe in 12 months, things look different. And he doesn't have to be in court to bring a legal case. And how much of the debt is loaded up on Chelsea and recoverable? Or does a new owner just waltz in and get the club debt-free for nothing. And even if he sold the club, why sell what he owns of the stadium or the training ground, which again might be worth something in the future. And could a new owner even do a deal without them?

"Frozen" until they (HMG) determine how they're going to dispose of them. As for "12 months time" (or whenever), what can he do in the meantime to justify his assets being returned to him? They have been seized because of his links to Putin, indeed much of them have derived directly or indirectly from his links to Putin. How do you imagine he can undo that? Think of it like an Unexplained Wealth Order, whereby suspicious funds can be seized by Court Order without an actual criminal conviction (eg suspected drug dealers). Except that in cases like Abram's, the wealth is very easily explained. [Post edited 11 Mar 2022 16:00]

I think this is quite complicated because the club company and the investment vehicle (Fordstam?) are both owned by RA and both subject to the sanctions. These companies are separate legal entities. As I understand it, the club company has been ‘loaned’ c£3bn by Fordstam. Under the current freeze, I don’t think that Fordstam could waive or write off this debt even if RA wanted to. We can then get into the arguments as to what constitutes the club vs the club company. The only similar example I can think of is the new company Sevco acquiring the history etc. of Glasgow Rangers. We can only hope for a hilariously similar outcome. Just my observations of course, I could be completely wrong about this. [Post edited 11 Mar 2022 16:23]
