If it was a straight forward question Wales to be run in an ideal world on 13:22 - Oct 2 by Catullus
No devolution and run by whichever government is democratially elected.
Thats the failed model we had before our welsh parliament.
Wales had a Thatcher led Tory government that we never voted for. We saw the obscenity of the handling of the miners strike. We saw wales as the poorest nation in northen Europe.
See also the poll tax in Scotland and the sad situation in the north of Ireland.
Nobody wants to go back to all that old crap shirley ?

National policy to be formulated at Westminster by UK government; local policy to be implemented by properly empowered County Councils at regional level.
The principle of subsidiarity is a sound one but the Senedd, Holyrood and Stormont represent little more than a superfluous tier of polity inevitably draining investment and public expenditure toward the three centres, the very opposite of the wide disbursement that struggling areas need.
An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

There is a difference between nations and regions.
If we need to reduce a tier of govt, then it needs to be Tory Westmonster.

Poorer than Albania, Romania, Greece, and most of the other Eastern Europe countries I think not. Wales was part of the 5th richest country in the world.

How have Wales' education and health services fared since devolution?

Getting rid of the senedd and setting up 13 local councils all with their fare share of the Welsh settlement from the UK would half the numbers of councils, get rid of the millstone of the senedd , and give real power to the councils to level up all areas in Wales not just Cardiff .

Poorest Northern Europe i said.
Thats how Wales qualified for extra EU funding for levelling up. Johnsons government is going to stop these EU monies following into Wales of course.

Still part of one of the richest countries in the World with extra funding from the UK government far exceeding any EU money it got which of course was paid for by the UK taxpayers in tye first place. An independent Wales would loose all that of course.

I always note that no supporter of the current bunch of no hopers in cardiff ever try to defend that and other similar questions, perhaps its indefensible ?

Just Google Barnett formula works out at about an extra £1400 per person on Wales per year. Roughly £4.5 billion a year. These are figures for 2018/19.

Cymru got structural funding from the EU precisely because of how poor it was. The responsibility for that is with Westminster.
Its a question that puzzles many people, why is Cymru so poor when the uk is so wealthy ?
Its through politicak choice and its entirely deliberate. Contrast to marginal Tory areas.
At least Welsh Govt gives us a democratic voice now.

Wales is not poor that is just a delusion. The EU structural funds were/are small changed compared to the extra £4.5 billion Wales gets from the UK government. Wales of course often waste the funds on schemes no one wants or even ask for. One example a new industrial site in North Wales which did not see a single factory in the 20 years it was open, it finally closed and had been sold of by the Welsh government at a huge loss.
The average wage for females in Wales is compatible to the rest of the UK. For males there is a big difference caused by the huge wages in London and the South East.

The EU assessment was objective. Wales got allocated structural funds because it was poor. That is fact.
So now we have empty shelves, empty fuel pumps, dodgy contract awards in pandemic, HS2, and issues in the north of Ireland. We had to recruit 20,000 new police having cut by ….20,000 old police. And you point at Wales and use the word ‘waste’. Lets not mention a Royal yacht that the Royals dont want.
Give it up ffs mun. Johnson and his clown car of a government are the laughing stock of the whole world.

That is why Wales gets it huge subsidy from Westminster as the Welsh workforce is not as productive as the UK average and the best talent in Wales leave for better jobs in the rest of the UK. 40 years of very small structural funding by the EU for unwanted and unnecessary projects have not changed this.
The Brynglas tunnels fiasco for the last 20 years, which has not been solved, could have been sorted out 10 years ago if Wales had a forward looking dynamic government.

Wales does not get enough subsidy from central government, everybody that looks at it comes to the same conclusion that Wales is under funded but the UK government never amends it.

Your suggestion that this money is 'extra' funding implies that it is money over and above what Wales SHOULD get. A subsidy you might say
This is what it actually is - 'The Barnett formula is a mechanism used by the Treasury in the United Kingdom to automatically adjust the amounts of public expenditure allocated to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to reflect changes in spending levels allocated to public services in England',
So the £1400 extra per head you mention allocated to Wales actually only reflects the fact that money had been spent in England and the other three Nations get an amount to balance this out.
Saying an Independent Wales would lose that funding suggests that Wales gets something extra with this arrangement. It doesn't. It gets it's fair share.

Wales gets its share of the pot but not a fair share of the pot otherwise it would get more and others would get less.
