As for the place, I found the people very friendly and can recommend Dubrovnik - never seen so much totty out for an evening stroll...

Really liked Dubrovnik around the old town etc, yes with all the other tourists but so what!

Also did Split, pretty good along the waterfront area

depends where you went ,I`ve been many times but not to the touristy bits and they are very hospitable people .
The food`s not great though.

It's a top country. All those islands mean a massive coastline and never any packed beaches like on the Italian side of the Adriatic.

Zadar and Pula are both top coastal picks away from the most touristy cities, and lots of options from Zadar to jump on ferries to the islands.

I always found the people friendly enough and you can find decent food without too much difficulty.

Cheaper and cleaner than Italy too.
