Vinyl 19:04 - Jan 19 with 5170 views | Hayesender | Treated myself to a record player a few days ago. Loved rummaging through second hand record shops in my youth, but during these crap times, has anyone got any recommendations for online records? Thanks in advance

Vinyl on 19:09 - Jan 19 with 4294 views | Ned_Kennedys | eBay and Discogs for used are your best bets.
Vinyl on 19:14 - Jan 19 with 4280 views | collegeranger | Eel Pie Records in Twickenham - delivers locally and sends if you are further afield. New and 2nd hand - very good standard classic vinyl not just ultra rare (and expensive) which I find some record stores on line tend to! https://www.eelpierecords.com/
Vinyl on 19:21 - Jan 19 with 4259 views | ngbqpr | Discogs is totally addictive. Rabbit holes galore. Closest online comes to the secondhand record shop rummaging experience. I use Juno for quite a bit of new stuff. https://www.juno.co.uk/

Vinyl on 19:38 - Jan 19 with 4224 views | hamptonhillhoop | Banquet Records in Kingston is very good. I've had loads off them online during lockdown. A bloke I work with uses Diverse vinyl, which is run by a mate of his. Never used them but may be worth a look https://www.banquetrecords.com [Post edited 19 Jan 2021 19:40]

Vinyl on 19:44 - Jan 19 with 4210 views | larsricchi | I've had great experiences buying from Discogs. That community seems to hold itself more accountable to things like how they grade the vinyl, the sleeve, etc. I've found some great out-of-print/yet-to-be-reissued records there, occasionally at fantastic prices.
Vinyl on 20:01 - Jan 19 with 4175 views | BrianWilson | This guy on twitter does surprise vinyl packs for set prices based on your taste. Seems decent and reasonably priced - https://twitter.com/BrighterDayvnl He also does video flick throughs of new stock he gets which is a bit like digging. [Post edited 19 Jan 2021 20:04]

Late 80s time I’d cycle down to Notting Hill Record and Tape Exchange on a Saturday morning where you could buy a closed box of random records for a fiver. Then wobble back down that fkin massive hill towards Acton to check them out. A few months of doing this left me with piles of right old crap which I’ve still got lying around, but it was a proper treat back then and there was always a few gems in there (a white label of the Come Home remix by James always sticks in the mind). I’ve spent lockdown getting the old records out of the attic and sorting them out and it’s been a real pleasure. Echo others about Discogs it’s brilliant and a very trustworthy community. Amazing what some of the old ones are worth, and it’s always the ones you don’t expect. A bog standard copy of Dummy by Portishead or an Orbital album is massively in demand. All the rare dance 12 inches I thought would be worth a fortune... aren’t.
Vinyl on 21:08 - Jan 19 with 4088 views | dezzar | Bought dozens of vinyl albums off Discogs , never had a problem, the desciption of records pretty much tells you what to expect. My main buys are original 70s rock and soul never been dissapointed
Vinyl on 21:26 - Jan 19 with 4044 views | Juzzie | Late 2019 it was predicted that for 2020 new vinyl sales, which were already strong, would go up by an acceptable 5%. It actually went up 40% and demand is so strong that as of end of 2020 we still had some 400,000 on catalogue back-order and the factories are already fully booked until July for new releases. It’s actually become a real problem but I guess a good problem to have. Amazing how it’s turned around from a dead format (thanks to Woolies) to being incredibly strong again. Keep buying them (but please also be patient if there are stock issues/delays).

There’s a great place in Portsmouth (Southsea) Pie & Vinyl, bit of a cafe, bric a brac and record shop. Pretty trendy and worth a visit if you’re ever down this way.
Vinyl on 21:31 - Jan 19 with 4036 views | silky | Discogs is an amazing catalog of music. And you will get lost going down the rabbit hole of aliases of artists you like the music of. As for vinyl, it’s the only musical format that I release my own music on. Nothing comes close to holding a physical piece of your own art. Sit back put the needle on the record and enjoy!

Vinyl on 08:54 - Jan 20 with 3871 views | Rangers67 | If you want to actually go and see and feel the goods try Sounds of the Suburbs in Ruislip Manor. Tony who runs it is an encyclopedia of vinyl and has loads of stock.
Vinyl on 09:47 - Jan 20 with 3837 views | westberksr | also worth browsing the facebook marketplace as some pretty random sales come up where people are moving/clearing houses. You might buy a job lot that is 80% rubbish but has a few nuggets and the cost is usually pretty low, depends how niche your genres/interests are though
Vinyl on 10:11 - Jan 20 with 3816 views | markqpr | Nice one Hayes, what record player did you get? As others have stated Discogs is excellent for rarities. I've never had a problem with any purchase and have bought 12"s I've been told by record shops that I would never find. For online shops Juno is the best. Extremely reliable and my tenants so please shop there! www.juno.co.uk Honest Johns on Portebello Road is another great shop. After a while, consider upgrading your needle, it really does make a difference.
Vinyl on 10:17 - Jan 20 with 3803 views | ted_hendrix | Christ I remember the days of just walking into record shops and buying whoever's latest LP getting home and smelling inside the record sleeve before you played it, LP sleeves had a certain smell, gently putting the stylus arm down on the LP and just listening. (bliss). Where did it all go wrong?

Vinyl on 10:41 - Jan 20 with 3776 views | robith | imo the two best online shops are resident in brighton and norman's records in Manchester. for new releases. Rough Trade is a bit expensive but if you're in London the delivery is so quick That said I have an indie bent. Phonica for electronic and Sounds of the Universe for soul/jazz/disco/out there v good There's a lot of new stuff on vinyl these days but I've gone right off coloured vinyl. My mum got me the 10th anniversary edition of High Violet by The National and the first disc has been pressed dreadfully, sounds like a walkman running out of batteries
Vinyl on 10:44 - Jan 20 with 3770 views | OutWestR | As others have said, Discogs is great. I buy and sell a lot on there and it’s pretty honest. eBay on the other hand I would generally avoid for second hand stuff as the grading is hit and miss. It can be good for new stuff though. Juno is excellent, really good service and fast delivery. If you want an all-rounder, Rough Trade is good, but their delivery can be slow sometimes https://www.roughtrade.com/ For more specialist stuff, I’ve been buying from these guys for years and highly recommend them (but it does depend on what you’re buying). https://soundsoftheuniverse.com/ https://www.mrbongo.com/ And sometimes these guys have stock when it’s sold out elsewhere https://www.piccadillyrecords.com/counter/index.php Echoing an earlier comment, I can’t stress how important a decent needle is. You’re effectively degrading the vinyl every time you play it, so it’s worth spending more to minimise the damage. Sadly I’ve knackered loads of records in the past through cheap needles.
Vinyl on 11:30 - Jan 20 with 3733 views | johncharles | Has anyone mentioned Sounds Original in South Ealing Road ? Used to be in Northfields Avenue opposite the station. Paul Green knows everything there is to know about vinyl. [Post edited 20 Jan 2021 13:32]

Vinyl on 11:30 - Jan 20 with 3734 views | colinallcars | I've bought stuff from Discogs - good quality and a huge range but many of the sellers are overseas and charge a fortune for p&p. Anyone living in the Barnes area has two vinyl shops, Olympic records opposite the old Olympic recording studio in Church Rd Barnes and Level Crossing Records which is, er, next to the level crossing in Mortlake. I'm so glad vinyl is still alive and kicking.
Vinyl on 11:34 - Jan 20 with 3728 views | dolcelatte | Ah Discogs - been buying off of there for years but the last couple are a bit of a lottery - if only all these newcomers would know how to grade records correctly - M- coming through as VG or worse. Not an isolated instance - belong to a few forums on record collecting and the consensus is stick to who you know and don;' trust the grades of newbies.
