Again, you’re missing the point.
Some calls for a second referendum are from those who want to clarify what exactly people are voting for. Some calls are from people who want a way out of a mess with seemingly no answer. Some calls are from people who want to remain, but understand that there aren’t the votes in parliament for revoking (as there are huge numbers who are terrified of losing their seats so won’t admit the truth) so see a second referendum as the only way of remaining.
Jo Swinson wants to remain - the LibDems want to remain, they have been crystal clear throughout. As have the Greens. They voted against triggering article 50.
But Swinson can’t get the votes to revoke, only for a second referendum. So her calls for it are not an indication that she’s unsure about the democratic will of the people - she disagrees with it. But additionally, she and others believe that the original vote didn’t provide clarity as no one knew what ‘brexit’ meant. That’s become completely clear. Mark Francois’ Brexit is not the same as Gove’s Brexit even though both are and always have been leavers. So a second referendum is also required to find out what people actually mean. But for the LibDems that’s a secondary issue as they don’t believe in any form of Brexit. | | | |
