Season Ticket Totaliser Thread 21:41 - Mar 20 with 155268 views442Dale

We have 87 days for people to get their £50 deposits in to determine the price of the 2017/18 Season Tickets.

Average amount of daily sales required by 21st June to hit the targets:
2000 (£250): 23
2500 (£200): 29
3000 (£150): 35
4000 (£110): 46

Keeping a track of this really helped ramp up the interest when Hartlepool fans did it, so hopefully it'll have a similar effect. Debate the numbers here over the next week, then we can add the figures once sales commence.

You're are right of course. I just wonder if the naysayers had kept quiet whether the promotion would have had more success.

Also a side point I suggested a £25 deposit if 2 or more under 11s tickets purchased. Would people be prepared to take that gambl?

Or even just £25 deposit full stop?
If so perhaps all those that would could email the club saying so

90% of the comments on here were good to begin with, it was a good idea, it was being marketed quite well, not brilliantly and sales were going well.

Look at the situation now, there's next to no marketing other than social media, where you're preaching to the converted, sales have completely stopped, there's confusion as to how much you will be paying if you do/don't put your deposit down. We've gone from selling 30-40+ a day to hardly any.

The lack of marketing/confusion during the last month or so and the decline in sales aren't just coincidences, they're intrinsically linked.

They can only blame themselves, but as per, they'll blame the town and fans, all you have to do is look all over social media the confusion that has been caused by their chopping and changing and that's for people interested in buying one/already put their deposit down.

To someone who hasn't bought a ST before or any potential new fans it's just been a disaster.

I regret putting my £50 down and I'll just have to take the loss on the chin. If the club can't be bothered to put a bit of effort into the marketing, I can't be bothered to fork out another £200+ after the 21st.

You won't have to fork out £200+
It will be £200 tops or hopefully £150.
Obviously you've already paid your £50 deposit on top already.

What about a 110 hour sale. Any one that has put down a deposit pays £60 within a 110 hour period to secure a £110 season ticket. Or if you haven't purchased buy season ticket for £110 in the period

It's a good idea (6am Monday-8pm Friday) but it's something that will create more work dealing with those who have paid rather than those who haven't at this stage.

Simplicity is needed. We've less than 3 weeks to do something that attracts attention with little in the way of associated questions.

We're now in the third day after a bank holiday period and ten days since a significant change in the promotion. The lack of tweets on the matter says it all - as many about the new Mitre matchball as ST this week. You have to wonder what the thinking is at Spotland right now.

How can a maximum of £10.87 per game, probably less, be a disaster for league one football next season? It's a fantastic offer and if the people who haven't yet put their deposits down (I do understand that not everyone can afford it, I'm talking about the people who can.), just pay your £50 and let's get it even cheaper for everyone. I can't really understand all the negativity.
You either want to pay £20 per game next season for your seat, which will cost you £460 for the whole season or pay between £110 and £250. No brainer.

The negativity isn't around the deal or the numbers. It's around the way the club can't even be arsed to market it properly, no advertising outside the town centre, the couple of billboards that still have an advert on them have the original deal on so people seeing that will think they're paying full wack.

As has been mentioned, there's been more made in the last week of this new Mitre ball than there has season tickets. It's poor, no one can say it isn't. We haven't sold many because not enough people have been reached out to about it. The only thing we do is the odd regurgitated post on twitter and Facebook. Who goes on them? People who will already have considered buying one.

You're right, it should be a no brainer, but the club don't make it easy for themselves.

That's what many have focused on and it really is EXACTLY how it should have worked, but up until now that has had limited success. There's pages of posts repeating the general theme where people have got to stop thinking about "I" but that, something that was crucial to the success of this scheme, hasn't had the desired effect looking at sales numbers so far.

£250 is a brilliant price and it's difficult to understand why some haven't put £50 down. But that's up to them and it's now up to the club to do more.

There can be no doubt whatsoever that many supporters have supported this very well, for anyone involved that's all that can be asked.

We can discuss this till the cows come home, but there's another potential bottom line here, and it's quite simply this:

Apart from the usual c.1700 fans who've bought an ST either regularly or occasionally, there just isn't the appetite for buying one at ANY price within the town

ffs - we can't even give them away (virtually) to schoolkids!

In terms of what the thinking might be within the club right now, I suspect it's somewhere in that direction. I fear that RG may be hobbled in future, since the board may well take the view that the 1700 might've bought at the usual price and therefore all that's happened is the club have lost money, the previous advertising has fallen pretty flat and they're not going to spend another penny on it

I'd love to be proven wrong, of course. No need to reply with "well if the club had set the initial price at £110..." - it's been done to death and we'll never know now

There are a couple of tweets about ST now, one of which directs people to the online sales option, which is great.

In that page there is a link from "Read more here"
https://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/2017/march/201718-season-ticket-details-/#8tK

On this link it contains the old info about targets and contains the bit about 2016/17 prices if we don't sell 2000. This needs updating.

I have to disagree about there being no appetite to buy a season ticket at any price. I get to around 5/6 games a season now. Used to go a bit more before my son went to Uni but now just tend to take in games when he's home. At £220 for two STs we would buy but at £500 for two we won't. As an aside, I was playing golf last night with two guys in Littleborough who also go a few times a year. They both said that at £110 they would buy STs for them and their teenage kids. That's 7 STs that would be bought if the price was £110. I suppose if I go to 5 or 6 games this season, the club will get about £100 off me anyway but I honestly believe if the they dropped the price to £110 there would be a massive shift in sales. Surely it's not too much of a gamble with the Hogan money in the bank?

I take your point, and maybe I was exaggerating when using the phrase "at any price" but when you have people who - on the face of it - would seemingly rather pay at the gate x23 than gladly put a deposit down at £50 + £200 in case someone else gets a ticket for the same price without having to pay a deposit...

My only conclusion is there really must be something in the water in Rochdale.

Some good points but at 20 quid a game people will pick and choose,at 110 a ST its near impossible to refuse to buy...

I put deposit down even though I have not got to a home game for 2 years. Too busy and live away but happy to help the club. I would maybe get to 3 games next year if had the time. I cannot understand why russ, who is proven at knowing his job, has marketed this so badly. Can only assume all the board and marketing guys assumed it would work and as such had no second plan in place.

It is the Rochdale way though, fecking shambles, disorganised, cluesless at times but gotta love it and appreciate the board. Sooner be as we are than having tommy bancrupt cannon on the program like in the 80's. Did that blank cheque ever turn up btw or was in spent on outfits for a club employee at the time?

You can call the marketing all you like, but regardless of whether there were canvassers going to every house in RMBC or if there was one poster up in the town centre, the results would be similar. Only the Dale faithful fans will splash out £150 plus for a season ticket, get it reduced to £110 for a month and watch those sales fly. That is the only way we will see the increase in sales, and I really believe that month will see us get over 3000, as long as people know about it!!

Not sure having them at £110 would sell many more. Also why would we want to sell season tickets to people who are only gonna show up to a hand full of games which seems to be a theme with people who would buy at the £110.

maybe because its £110.00 the club wouldn't get. The club aren't bothered if they if they come or not its money in the coffers.

I really do think they have made a right horses cock of the whole thing, again. There really is no sensible planning, no thoughts of what we do to engage - May get nailed for this But what the Hell has Russ Green, on probably 40k plus a year done? Sweetmore cock up, proven scheme that has failed, Marketing non existent, It is a joke.

I have no idea really what Russ actually does and the ex council lass is no better - I know of 2 far better people who would have done the job but for politics - feel free to give me grief but I will take that :)

The stated aim of the initiative was to end "embarrassing crowds" at the COA and get some decent support for the team.

As of now, with less than three weeks to go, we have still sold less STs than last years full ST + 1/2 ST total (1850).

I think it's fair to say that the scheme in any of the various formats hasn't delivered, and the only people who will benefit are those folk who bought full-price STs last year. They will now pay the equivalent of a maximum of £10.87/game if the offer closes at £250, or £8.70/game if it closes at £200.

Anyone buying a half ST paid £9.09/game last year, so if the 500 renew, they get more or less the same deal this year +/- depending on how many put a deposit down before the deadline.

The club has ended up with the worst of both worlds - as of now it will have a lower income this year due to all last year's full-price STs renewing at a substantial discount and it has not attracted sufficient new customers (with their ST spend + all the ancillary spend on match day) to offset the shortfall. With a potential price differential of nothing or at worst £50 between paying a deposit before the 21st or waiting until just before the season starts, the offer as it now stands has effectively been torpedoed and is sitting dead in the water.

What all of this boils down to is that the conditional nature of the offer, asking fans to take on the risk by buying in to such a scheme and putting down a deposit, was unworkable and has backfired. A decision now needs to be made on the next step (which for all we know could already have been made).

Is the club going to cut its losses and accept embarrassing crowds at the COA or will it now gamble and take on the risk by revitalising the offer and extending the deadline (sensible move if the offer is improved imho), with a downside of further loss of income if take-up continues to be poor, but a potential upside of attracting more fans and income to offset the losses? If the offer is improved, it absolutely has to be better communicated.

Either way, time is running out.

Another downside of this not working is if the club decide 'we tried and it didn't work, we'll have to go back to how it was' then if the ST's are put back to £300+ next season then the sales will certainly be woeful, as they were at the start of last season before the half STs were introduced.

True. But to offset that some of the new ST buyers may decide to renew? That's really what all this was about - try to get folk back into the ground and hope they'll be bitten by the bug.

It's been said much earlier in this thread, but the most simple thing to do now is have the £50 deposit guarantee (imo) entry to 3 games

"No risk involved" is the only solution, for both fans AND club
