Match thread: Southend on 20:43 - Jan 14 with 3228 views | antmarina | We really did have enough chances to win the game, if only Jamie Allen (who played well when he go to on) was 2 inches taller. We didn't deserve to win but obviously would have taken it. Nice to see Peter Vincenti in with the fans today. Southend are just like Phil Brown, aggressive, angry, dirty and in your face. The play acting was very poor and when He jumped on the pitch at the end it just optimised how they are as a club. We did miss Joe Bunney today....

The time taken for the ref to make the decision according to Martin.

That is exactly how it came across on Dale Player. [Post edited 14 Jan 2017 23:28]

Maybe he was thinking about what he was going to do, giving himself some thinking time.

Possibly checking with his fellow officials via his earpiece too? Rather an educated decision than a hasty one.

The best thing about a great run coming to an end, is the opportunity to start a new run. As we proved with previous excellent run. Bring it on.

Match thread: Southend on 08:40 - Jan 15 with 2309 views | Rodingdale | What a cracking match to watch, two teams who wanted to win for all 90 mins. Referee was poor in my opinion, seemed influenced by Southend players and the home crowd, at one point it seemed like every foul was a yellow. Conrad and Keith got themselves in trouble with some panicky stuff, not sure why Conrad had to go rushing out after they'd hit the bar? Wonder whether it's time for Josh to come back in? No complaints about either red though, Keane made sure the guy wasn't getting past him, and their guy was stupid to foul Hendo, much like the one Hendo got a red for at bury years ago. Shame we took Davis off in hindsight, but after the ref evened it up to 10 v 10 RNL wasn't the man to exploit the space. In the second half Jamie and Nathan were excellent and the game could have gone either way. At the point Jamie came on I don't think we had had a shot on target, he had four shots three of which were on target. He looks very fit and full of attacking intent. Likewise NML was excellent and linked well with Hendo and Raff and caused them lots of problems, nearly scored a couple of times. Gutted with their winner, but they way they celebrated beating us shows how far we've come. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

So you agree that it was a CLEAR OBVIOUS goal scoring opportunity? Or possibly an element of doubt?

Oh FFS, I know you're never going to have a full day off. Could you possibly manage an hour off? It was a justifiable red as those who were there will tell you. The ref took a minute to collect himself and that was it. Anybody who takes the views of Dale player as gospel are as deluded as the commentators themselves, who know fook all about the game and from experience I generally find the opposite of what they say to be nearer the truth. There are too many football fans in general who are know alls when they haven't even watched the bloody match.

Really? Not quite sure what I've done to upset you but I'm not sure why you have to resort to FFS? The commentator's on the radio even said it could have been a yellow as it wasn't clear - Fortune's touch took the ball way ahead of him. Then the ref sends off the Southend fella to even things up.

It was a clear red as those who were there will tell you! Commentators know jack shit about football compared to fans sitting in a ground. There was no doubt at all. Be told! The Southend fella was sent off for two yellows. In my view, the second yellow was harsh, but the card would still have been produced irrespective of what went before.

I'd say there's an element of doubt in every decision, depending on which side of the fence you're sitting on. Without the foul, Fortune would have been free to get a shot at Logan who, let's not forget, caused it all in the first place with his poor kick. It was also fairly clear from behind the goal how clever Henderson was in McGlashan's second yellow card. The camera angle won't see it, but he did instigate it quite cleverly (not Tom). Lund was subbed before he was sent off. He had been booked, possibly harshly, and was then spoken to a further three times by the referee. On a different day, we could have finished with nine men. I thought the referee was quite weak and allowed himself to be bullied by the likes of Ferdinand, but I thought he got Keane's red card right and can see why, from his angle, he sent-off McGlashan. Bizarrely, though, I've just been on the Southend forum and one of their fans says "I can see why Rochdale are up there, but I wasn't impressed by them". Eh?

I was not at the game and did not listen to radio commentary. 90+3 ouch... It hurts but no more than 0-3 at gillingham or 0-1 v MK. Dust ourselves down and get ready for Oxford on Saturday. Yeah they were, the co-commentator (Mick Payne I think he was called) was also on the after match phone in with Wagg and seemed to know his stuff. They were saying it could have been a yellow, I disagree and go more along with what Hill said - he was ok with the red card. There will always be a debate around decisions, that's a fact.
