Vale vs Dale Match Fred on 22:28 - Aug 16 by rochdaleriddler | I've only been to the Peterborough game, but I got the feeling tonight that this is a game we could have won, with the right personnel and tactics.most Dale fans feel uneasy with mcnulty at left back, and fail to see what our loanee winger brings to the table. Then we have Thompson who has waltzed into the squad and comes on before, other players when we need a goal. Thompson and RNL may be cheap, but they ain't free and their wages should be being put to better use |
Concerned/baffled about the absence of Hooper too - saw the Gills and Vale games last Nov when he suddenly appeared in the team and looked quality, plus was mature and physical for a young lad and showed definite ability. Thought we'd found our next gem but he's barely been seen since. Can only assume a fallout with Hill, or attitude problems, but there's a decent player there, better than some of our other options.

Vale vs Dale Match Fred on 21:57 - Aug 16 by JimmyRustler | So Cannon has scored 3 in 3, been our best player so far and then gets shunted at RB? Fookin beggars belief. Not shocked the lad was frustrated. I'd be absolutely revving. |

Lund played there last season. Tanser could have been utilised there if necessary too. We got it wrong sticking him there tonight. [Post edited 16 Aug 2016 22:49]

And whose fault is that? It's senseless to move Cannon back when he's been our best player. NB: Lund has played at RB in the past and done OK.
Vale vs Dale Match Fred on 22:50 - Aug 16 with 2552 views | boromat | Kind of understand the changes tonight if Raff was injured Cannon is the only real choice we have Lund maybe but I'm guessing he's not fully fit. Tanser may have been chose as a defensive addition to the midfield and being left footed gives balance. Pretty sure it wouldnt have been any of our choices but Hill knows his stuff and Tanser actually was one of our better players before going off. We were solid enough but saying that Port Vale were woeful going forward. We seemed to lack as much energy as we've seen recently and lacked that final bit of quality. Cannon struggled at right back and had to go off before a second yellow was shown to him. Odelusi did nothing when he came on and Camps showed why he was on the bench, for a player that was supposed to kick on this season he had a poor pre-season and so far hasn't recovered in terms of performances. Big problem for me going forward is actually at the back Canavan and Jim on the left side are terrible at distribution an going forward with the ball. A lot of big hoofs, sideways and backwards passing none of which you mind when they're under pressure and defending but when we're in control of the ball we just be doing better. We're easy to beat at the minute defend against our right side and attack our left haha. Regardless of all of that I'm not going to be too disheartened after tonight as it was two badly performing teams with a refereeing performance that meant the first goal was always going to win. A stop start match with the ref blowing every two minutes and allowing blatant time wasting. Bad day at the office let's move on. Oh last time I go to Vale Park as well. £22 to be stuffed in the corner and we've not won in the league since 1929? Did someone say. [Post edited 16 Aug 2016 22:51]

Vale vs Dale Match Fred on 00:55 - Aug 17 with 2064 views | macro | I don't often have a go but that performance was beyond poor. Another McNulty free kick given away another poor defensive goal. Were Henderson and NML even playing? That performance was one of the worst performances in the last few seasons. As for Odelusi! Lots of negatives that's for sure tonight, where has the fast flowing attacking football of preseason gone? That was aimless long balls up field with the hope Andrew would get hold of them. Two very poor teams that played a terrible game.

I thought when I saw the line up we'd play with wing backs and 3 centre backs. Sadly I think cannon was the only viable option at rb if it was 442, tanser would have struggled and I don't think Lund would have coped either. It highlights in a very obvious way the total lack of cover defensively where last season rose, Bennett or tk could have played at rb. Urgent defensive cover is needed.

Vale vs Dale Match Fred on 06:39 - Aug 17 with 1903 views | fitzochris | In listening to Beech on Radio Manc, I didn't hear any reasons for why we set up the way we did, just exposition about certain passages of play within the game. The only insight he gave from a tactical point of view was that we went long too early, instead of playing the short, penetrative football that we train for all week.

Vale vs Dale Match Fred on 08:18 - Aug 17 with 1721 views | ColDale | I don't think there was much option other than playing Cannon at right back. I know he's the lad in form, but for all Lund has fitted in at right back before, he's always looked a weak link to me when playing there, and it would have been a big ask for Tanser to make his first appearance of 2016 on the wrong side. Maybe going three at the back with wingbacks was an option (thats what I thought from the team sheet) but we don't know how late Raff was pulled out which might not have given them time to work on it. At half time last night, I was pretty pleased with how things were going. We'd played some lovely football - at times some of the best I've seen in the League One from us, and we had created 2 or 3 decent chances. Perhaps it was a touch of the rose coloured specs but we were up against a footballing side, and we were outpassing and outplaying them for the majority of the first half, and with the exception of one of the most glaring free header misses you'll ever see, we were never troubled by Vale. But, and there's always a but, the concern at half time was that Vale were absolutely there for the taking, but we've said that at Vale Park many, many times in the past, and so it proved to be the case again. Vale stepped up a gear at half time, disrupted our play a little and we fell to pieces. They scored with a move from our left hand side which is already becoming a theme, and from that moment on, we didn't look like getting anything from the game. I couldn't tell you whether it was Vale doing everything right and forcing us into the change, but we just stopped playing football and played in such a way that became very comfortable for the home side, and as the half went on, it had the feeling of one of those away trips to Barnsley where they could have picked us off at will. A better side than Vale could have finished with four or five goals as we huffed and puffed to get something. We could have snatched a late scrambled goal but we wouldn't have deserved it. Someone mentioned that KH doesn't know his best side. I'd say that the problem at the moment is that he does know it but the squad at the moment doesn't allow him to improve it. I don't think Camps is up to his best yet - there were glimpses last night but not much more than that, but for the res t of the squad, there's no one who you'd say could come on and give Vale problems. The lad from Wigan looks like he's never played the game before and in the two showings I've seen from him so far, he looks detrimental to our play. I'd rather Reuben be given a chance off the bench than him, and I'v e never been one shouting for RNL to be given another chance.
