Dale Co-op latest: meeting 2 Sept 13:41 - Sep 3 with 4114 viewsD_Alien

" Absolutely BRILLIANT meeting this morning at Riverside in Rochdale! Full details will follow shortly of all the VERY real progress we've made. Suffice it to say, we now have a framework constitution underway (via the expert office Peter Rhodes at Molesworth Bright Clegg Solicitors); we have also clarified ALL the committee roles and responsibilities; we have set a latest date for the online election AND we have clarified how share issues will be issued and legally administered.

Most importantly perhaps, we now have a new INTERIM committee consisting of a Chair, one of two proposed Vice-Chairs, Treasurer, Secretary, Arts Co-ordinator, Facilities Co-ordinator and Legal Co-ordinator. These interim positions will allow us to legally open our group bank account AND provide a vehicle to make collective decisions until the full elections are held no later than October 31st 2015.

So don't forget, PLEDGED members / subscribers WILL be able to take part in the forthcoming elections, and indeed put themselves forward for a role on the final committee. We still need at LEAST two more Rochdalians to put themselves forward for the role of "Media Co-ordinator" and "Merchandising Co-ordinator". You can check out the role descriptions at:
http://getyourshare.co.uk/apply-to-join-committee.php

So to be involved AND informed, why not pledge YOUR support today?
WE need you! ROCHDALE needs you!

Sounds great!

Could you please provide links to comparable projects that have succeeded? It would be useful for investment purposes.

It's not an "investment" type enterprise. It's about interested people wanting to see Rochdale pulled up by it's bootstraps. In due course, dividends may become available and shares can be sold on, but once the constitution is ratified it'll make clear this is a not-for-profit business; in other words, no-one is looking to make their fortune, and profits will be re-invested in further enhancing the commercial, social and artistic quality of our town, especially it's centre.

Give me a realistic % chance of it succeeding.

I'd say less than 10%. So i'd expect a high return on investment.

Perhaps knowing how much you individually have put in will encourage others.

For your £100, or ten hours labour, you'll be entitled to one share, and voting rights.

No-one will hold more than one share.

if you're looking to make money, there's lots of opportunities out there - and lots more to lose it too. If you want to make a difference to your town, I'd urge you get involved, at not much risk. You don't actually have to hand over a single penny.

Thankyou.

I've just pledged

This can only be a good thing, 10 hours are nothing to give up. If everyone in the Town or if even only every Dale fan offered to give 10 hours of there time to make the town a better place how good do you think it could be.

Lets stop this stupid chant (you all know the one) and lets be proud to be true Rochdalians

I bet the original Rochdale Pioneers of 18wibble didn't have an "Executive Committee".

And there lies the problem with a decent and worthy idea.

A committee might be necessary in the future. But for something that's just starting, you need a chairperson, secretary and treasurer - that's it.

If IT/Marketing/Finance specialists consider their 10hrs pw entitles them to a role denied to ordinary grunts, then they should be told to Foxtrot Oscar.

This deserves to succeed, but probably won't as it chokes to death on its own bullshit.

I'm out. But if I still lived in Rochdale, I would be in. Good luck with this, I hope you succeed and gain influence.

Fantastic news and good luck to all involved.

The alternative of doing nowt is a very poor second option.

This should be applauded and championed by all living in the borough.

Thanks to your enthusiasm, I've put down to buy a share for £100. I take the view that if you don't make the effort, you get what you deserve.

Whilst I'm sceptical that anything can be achieved in town whilst the immigrants continue to outnumber the rest, I'm still willing to support any worthwhile project.

I won't go into detail, but you couldn't be more wrong.

There is no "executive committee" - just good people with specific roles that need carrying out for this to succeed, trying their damnedest to keep it as lean as possible.

Bullshit? Yep, some rochdalians are full of it. You're either part of the solution, or you're part of the problem.

Whilst many people might quite understandably be waiting to see what happens with this project before committing to it, one of the principles the existing membership hold to be true is that any citizen of Rochdale - or indeed any citizen living anywhere who wants to see Rochdale become a success story after decades of decline - has an equal right to their "share" irrespective of race, gender, colour of their skin, political or religious affiliation. Dale Co-op is a completely non-sectarian organisation.

If there's anyone who doesn't hold the best interests of Rochdale at heart, due to having a different agenda, or not in full agreement with above principle, that's another matter. I happen to know R17ALE isn't racist, but has concerns regarding this very point. There is a difference.

There is no racist comment at all in that post.

A throw away generalisation certainly but nothing more.

You any good things to say at all RR about the proposed scheme?
