Russia on 21:28 - Mar 4 with 735 views | Lord_Bony | Did you know that if there was a limited nuclear exchange the safest countries would be the ones without nuclear weapons. So the ones who never contributed anything to "world security" will in fact be the ones to get off lightly. Funny that in it.?

Russia on 21:38 - Mar 4 with 720 views | Nogginthenog | As corrupt as he obviously is, Putin is merely protecting his considerable interests in the Crimea. As long as he keeps to just that don't see any possibility of us or the US influencing his decision. He is a wily old fox and I think he knows how far he can go. The suggestion that this could escalate into a nuclear war is not one I would expect or like to contemplate. However, it underlines the instability of the world and the fact that we have decimated our armed forces, makes it essential that we retain the big stick. Even though it is enormously costly to maintain.

Good to hear! I'll be able to get to sleep now. I was getting quite worried for a moment because I live in Germany and had never thought of myself as being at high risk. I suppose the excellent medical system had lulled me into a false sense of security.

Exactly. NO CAPABLE NATION WILL OPENLY TAKE MILITARY ACTION AGAINST RUSSIA. It just won't happen, not as things stand today. Not unless Russia does something insane. You can expect diplomatic talks and at the very worst UN sanctions. But no one is going to war with Russia over Ukraine except possibly the Ukrainians. If Russia maintains control of Crimea then they have control of a permanent warm water port. Russia's Black Sea Fleet. It's currently Russia's most important naval base that is usable during winter so they're understandably keen to protect it.
