It’s amazing to say Boro came away with nothing from the Liberty Stadium today.
Neil Warnock's side were by far the better team but the game decided by a late and controversial Andre Ayew penalty.
Here we have a look at Middlesbrough’s player ratings.
Marcus Bettinelli —6 The Boro keeper was not required a great deal today and could have had a cuppa in the second half. One nervy attempted punch but pretty quiet day overall.
Anfernee Dijksteel —6 Linked up well with Bolasie for going off injured in 12th minute.
Grant Hall—8 Hardly put a foot wrong once again. Man marked well and dominated in the air, losing all but none of his aerial duels.
Dael Fry—7 Fry — Played well alongside Hall and never looked troubled. Headed well when required.
Paddy McNair —7 Paddy was allowed freedom to drift further forward and linked up well with the midfield. Cleared Swansea’s first dangerous attack in second half and delivered the ball well too.
George Saville—6 Kept the ball well and barely misplaced a pass. George could have done better with headed chance too. Game lost very late on by reckless slide to concede penalty.
Jonny Howson —7 Accurate passing and good feet. Cleared well after Bettinelli error but came under scrutiny for his own communication error with Bola for first Swansea goal.
Marc Bola —6 Bola — Good crossing and energy from the left wing back. Clashed with Howson, leading to Swansea opener when it looked Howson’s ball to go for. Great strike also wrongly ruled out.
Sam Morsy —8 Boro’s MOTM. Covered most of the pitch and broken up the play well on numerous occasions. Chased down the ball often to put pressure on Swansea. Great yet unlikely strike for the equaliser.
Duncan Watmore —5 Had Boro’s best chance in first half. Struggled to get into the game though with Swansea putting two, sometimes three men on him.
Yannick Bolasie—7 Bolasie — Clearly seen as their talisman with the ball often into his feet. Had a few half chances and often glided past players with ease. Defenders dare not touch him. Should have had the assist if it was not for poor refereeing.
Substitutes
Djed Spence-4 Subbed on for injured Dijksteel but wasn’t a day to remember. Gave the ball away often and was eventually replaced by Johnson — very brave call from Warnock to take off a substitute.
Neeskens Kebano-7 Great running at the Swansea defence. Had fantastic feet to get away from players and picked up a lot of free kicks.
Chuba Akpom-5 Brought on at half time to try change the tide. Had early first half chance but didn’t do much for the rest.
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing-6 Got back well to recover dangerous chance from Swansea’s Lowe and great vision to pick out Morsy for equaliser. Crossing a little suspect at times.
Marvin Johnson-6 Good energy and pace when needed. Delivered an amazing cross which had to be defended well by Swansea.
