Middlesbrough recorded a 3-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers to get 2021 off to a perfect start.
A goal from Uche Ikpeazu meant that the Chairboys got off to a perfect start however it was only a matter of time until the Teessiders turned up the heat.
Marcus Browne marked his return to the starting line-up with a goal from close range before Marcus Tavernier fizzed home a second before the break.
Marcus Bettinelli — 6
Coped relatively well with what was thrown at him.
Anfernee Dijksteel -7
A good game that saw Wycombe fail to really penetrate the Boro defence.
Dael Fry — 7
A dominant display that barely saw Wycombe have a sniff for the duration.
Paddy McNair — 7
Should have done better to stop Ikpeazu early on but made up for it with two assists and a defensively sound display. Showcased his lethal set piece delivery once again.
Marc Bola — 6
Got forward well and caused problems.
Sam Morsy — 7
Went quietly about his business and stopped Wycombe from really causing any problems.
George Saville — 7
Played a simple game but looked to push forward and thread the ball into the forward line.
Marcus Tavernier — 8
An excellent all-round display. Worked hard, got a goal and could have had one or two more with a bit more luck. Really showing his quality right now.
Marvin Johnson — 7
Caused a lot of problems with some teasing balls from the left. Arguably Middlesbrough's most dangerous outlet again.
Marcus Browne — 8
An excellent return to the starting XI as he got on the scoresheet. The challenge now is to maintain this sort of display.
Chuba Akpom — 7
Worked very hard for the team and got his reward with a goal late on. Often doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
Substitutes
Djed Spence — 6
Caused problems with his pace and energy late on.
Britt Assombalonga — N/A
Didn’t really have enough time to make an impact.
