Middlesbrough return to Carabao Cup action as they host Barnsley on Tuesday night.
The Tykes narrowly avoided relegation last term and have hopes of kicking on this season under Gerhard Struber.
It's been a mixed start to this season, however, with a 1-0 cup victory over Nottingham Forest being followed up by a disappointing defeat to relegation candidates Luton Town at the weekend.
With the clash at the Riverside Stadium in mind, we caught up with Carlo and Chris from the Reds' Report podcast to get the lowdown on Boro's opposition.
How has Barnsley’s summer period been?
It started quiet with the return of Kilian Ludewig on a season-long loan.
Ludewig has been part of the Germany youth set up and has the exact qualities Strüber demands from his players.
There's been a couple of further signings in midfield and defence with the only major outgoing (so far) the departure of Jacob Brown.
Brown was excellent under Strüber and his assists tally last season will be missed.
What signings have been made?
Ludewug (loan), Christie (MF), Helik (DF) and Frieser (MF/FW) are the signings so far.
What are Barnsley’s ambitions this season?
First target is always survival but the performances since lockdown have been impressive and a mid table position feels achievable.
Who are the key Barnsley players to watch out for against Middlesbrough?
It's the spine of the team Walton (GK) has made the number one shirt his with impressive performances.
Sollbauer(DEF) has been a rock in defence and his presence has improved the players around him.
Alex Mowatt the club captain who is the midfield dynamo. With an eye for goal and solid performances he is playing to his full potential.
Cauley Woodrow (FW) has the skill to sore screamers from outside the box and 75% of his goals scored within the box were scored with his 1st touch.
Where do you see the game being won and lost?
Barnsley's style of high intensity and 'gegenpress' is dependent on high pressing, quick interplay and high energy. The midfield will be key for us.
How do you see Middlesbrough’s season playing out?
Any Neil Warnock side is a difficult one to play against.
I think the majority of fans will have Middlesborough down for a top 10 finish.
What is your score prediction for the game?
Our prediction is a 2-2 draw with Barnsley winning on penalties.
